On November 19, 2024, the ECHO General Department's Leadership Delegation led by Ms. Valentina Auriccho, Head of the ECHO Regional Department for Latin America, Caribbean, South, East, Southeast Asia and the Pacific, had a working session at Vietnam Post Corporation.
At the meeting, Ms. Valentina Auricchio said that ECHO had successfully completed the project in Vietnam and wanted to thank Vietnam Post for its cooperation and support for ECHO's projects implemented in Vietnam through the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
The ECHO General Department's Leadership Delegation visited Vietnam Post
Ms. Valentina Auriccho highly appreciated the efforts of Vietnam Post in cooperating with FAO to pay relief money to localities affected by Typhoon Yagi recently.
Representative of Vietnam Post, Deputy General Director Chu Thi Lan Huong discussed with the delegation of ECHO General Department about the mechanism, capacity and challenges of Vietnam Post when implementing the work of paying relief money via post in the context that local post offices are also heavily affected by the storm.
The Deputy General Director emphasized that Vietnam Post's work of paying relief money to people affected by natural disasters is a community mission, a task assigned by the Government to designated postal enterprises.
In addition, at the meeting, the ECHO delegation also shared experiences of other countries in deploying mobile postal services (by truck) to remote areas, places with difficult access to postal services.
ECHO hopes to continue to cooperate with Vietnam Post in implementing humanitarian projects in Vietnam, and will propose and introduce other UN organizations to cooperate with Vietnam Post in emergency relief payment services.
