According to the Hoi An Cultural Heritage Conservation Management Center, Faifo Prison was one of the large-scale prisons built by the French colonialists in Quang Nam - Da Nang in the early 20th century.
This was a place of imprisonment for revolutionary fighters and patriotic citizens who participated in the struggle in Quang Nam and neighboring provinces during the resistance against colonial invaders.

Among them were patriots and prominent figures from Quang Nam such as Huynh Thuc Khang, Tran Cao Van, Nguyen Thanh, Chau Thuong Van;… along with many pioneering revolutionaries of the Quang Nam - Da Nang Party Committee such as Phan Van Dinh, Vo Toan (Vo Chi Cong),...
By 1947, when the French colonialists returned to occupy Hoi An, this prison had been completely destroyed.

During the war against the US, the Faifo prison area was established as an Interrogation Center, and some of its architectural features still remain today.
