Listen and understand

Nguyen Gia Bao Phuc, from Dong Xuan village (Thang Dien commune), is an orphan whose father passed away. His family is classified as a poor household, and his mother is battling cancer. He has only one year left before entering university, but for Bao Phuc, that dream seems incredibly uncertain.

Similarly, Vo Thi Nhat Tam, a 9th-grade student at Phan Boi Chau Secondary School, comes from a particularly difficult background. Over the years, she has consistently strived for excellent academic results, and this exemplary figure of overcoming adversity urgently needs support to continue her journey forward.

Helping underprivileged children realize their dreams, the Women's Union of Thang Dien commune has launched the "Godmother - Giving Love" model to find "second mothers" to provide material and spiritual support for these children.

Through the program, orphaned children are sponsored by various agencies, organizations, and individuals as "mothers," receiving between 300,000 and 500,000 VND per month. Currently, Bao Phuc receives 500,000 VND per month from this program. Bao Phuc shared: "I will try my best to study hard so as not to disappoint my 'godmothers' who have supported and encouraged me on my journey ahead."

Ms. Le Thi Li, Chairwoman of the Women's Union of Thang Dien commune, said that a survey of the entire commune after the merger revealed 31 orphaned children facing extreme difficulties. Some cases even involve children who have lost both parents and are living with elderly grandparents, lacking both material and emotional support. The Women's Union prioritizes connecting with and selecting the most disadvantaged cases to provide full sponsorship. "Hopefully, in the future, more helping hands will reach out to support and help these children continue pursuing their unfinished dreams," Ms. Li said.

In Tra Long village, Mr. Nguyen Van Duc's household was affected by Component Project 2, the completion of Coastal Road 129 (Vo Chi Cong Road). To implement the project, Mr. Duc's household had a total land area of 891.7m2 (rural residential land accounting for 140m2) confiscated. In addition to compensation costs, his family was allocated one resettlement plot to build a new house.

Thanks to persistent propaganda and persuasion efforts from various levels of government, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Thang Dien commune, and related units, Mr. Duc's household has agreed to the general plan. The construction site for the key project of Da Nang city continues to be cleared. The commune authorities stated that if Mr. Duc's household needs assistance in dismantling and relocating affected furniture and structures, the local authorities will send personnel to support them.

Continue to build and expand.

Taking care of social welfare, removing bottlenecks in land clearance for project construction... achieving many results is a result of Thang Dien commune's application of effective "people mobilization" in practice.

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tu, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Thang Dien commune, said that the "effective mass mobilization" program is implemented by the locality based on models that have been formed and effectively developed from the three former communes of Binh Tu, Binh Trung, and Binh An. These include 7 models in the economic field, 19 models in culture and social affairs, 6 models in building the political system, and 8 models in security, defense, religion, and ethnicity.

Each model of "effective mass mobilization" applied in Thang Dien has brought about positive impacts on family life, residential areas, schools, and society... Therefore, the commune Party Committee directed the Party Building Committee to find solutions to promote and replicate effective models; and to research and develop new, suitable models. The Standing Committee of the commune Party Committee also assigned a Party Committee member to each village, and a Standing Committee member to be in charge of two villages to direct the implementation of tasks, including "effective mass mobilization" work.

According to Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tu, the biggest challenge for Thang Dien is achieving double-digit economic growth.

However, the locality still has much potential and advantages for economic development, such as the underutilization of agricultural land (occupying nearly 3,900 hectares). During the rainy season, many western areas are flooded, making it impossible to grow long-term crops; the eastern area, being sandy and not prone to flooding, is still a safe zone for farmers who are cautious about investing in agricultural production due to the need to carefully consider the potential returns.

Therefore, the commune will work with and invite businesses to survey and establish production linkages along the value chain, developing a green economy and digital economy in agriculture, which farmers currently desperately need.

Thang Dien commune has many key projects such as Component Project 2 to complete the 129 coastal road and the high-speed railway project on the North-South axis. These projects will change the face of the area and contribute to achieving the goal of investing in synchronized infrastructure to serve socio-economic development. Therefore, the commune will actively coordinate with "effective public mobilization" in land clearance for construction and building new rural areas in the locality.

Thang Dien is prioritizing the completion of the general planning, based on systematically and scientifically revising and supplementing the new rural planning of the three former communes.

The commune is also awaiting specific and official land clearance milestones from the North-South high-speed railway project. Land outside the scope of this key project and other projects will be planned by the local authorities, attracting investment to develop suitable and sustainable economic models, striving to achieve double-digit growth; and reaching an average per capita income of 100 million VND by 2030.
