Malaysian Football Federation confirms errors in naturalization process

The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) is waiting to receive the full verdict from the World Football Federation (FIFA) before filing an appeal in accordance with the correct procedures and regulations.

Malaysia admitted there was a technical error in naturalizing its players.

In a statement released on the evening of September 28, FAM admitted that there were technical errors in the naturalization application process carried out by the administrative department. However, the organization affirmed: "The naturalized players are all legal Malaysian citizens."

"FAM is taking the matter seriously. We would like to stress that the players in question are all Malaysians under the law," FAM Secretary-General Datuk Noor Azman Hj Rahman stressed.

The FIFA penalty is shaking Malaysian football. Seven key players were suspended for 12 months, FAM was fined about 10 billion VND, and the reputation of this country's football was severely affected.

Many opinions in the country, from politicians to fans, have asked FAM to take drastic action to protect the rights of players, and at the same time restore the image of Malaysian football in the eyes of the region and the world.

In the worst case scenario, Malaysia could be eliminated from the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers; or even banned from international tournaments for years.

Currently, Malaysia is at the top of Group F of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers with 6 points after 2 matches. Meanwhile, the Vietnamese team is behind with 3 points less.
