Taking place over two days, April 11th and 12th, 2026, this year's Ba Phuong Chao Festival is organized systematically with many rich activities, harmoniously combining the ceremonial and festive aspects.
The highlight of the festival is the Grand Ceremony of Merit to Lady Phuong Chao, with traditional rituals to express gratitude to the goddess revered by the people.
The ceremony took place in a solemn atmosphere with rituals such as processions, offerings, prayers for the deceased, and supplications for national peace and prosperity… reflecting the principle of "remembering the source when drinking water" and the enduring spiritual beliefs of the community.
Following the ceremonial part, the festival unfolds with vibrant and lively activities such as boat racing, traditional folk singing, and displays of local cuisine , creating a joyful and captivating atmosphere.
The festival is held annually to commemorate Lady Phuong Chao, who is believed to protect and bless the local people with favorable weather, bountiful harvests, and peaceful, prosperous lives.

According to folk legends and the Nguyen family genealogy in Phiếm Ái district (Khương Mỹ village, Đại Cường commune, now Vu Gia commune), Mrs. Phường Chào (also known as Mrs. Chợ Được), whose real name was Nguyễn Thị Của, was born on February 25th, 1800 (the year of Canh Thân).
Legend has it that when she was born, a strange omen appeared with white smoke covering the entire area. At the age of 17, she passed away into the void but still frequently manifested herself in Phuong Chao. The villagers, believing in and revering her divine power, erected a shrine to worship her.
Due to her miraculous powers in spiritual life, she was twice bestowed titles by the Nguyen Dynasty. Specifically, in 1894 (during the reign of Emperor Thanh Thai), she was granted the title "Dực bảo Trung hưng trung đẳng thần nữ Nguyễn thị linh ứng tôn thần"; and in 1919 (during the reign of Emperor Khai Dinh), she was further elevated to "Dực bảo Trung hưng thượng đẳng thần".
On September 30, 2020, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism issued a decision recognizing the Ba Phuong Chao Festival as a national intangible cultural heritage.
The Phuong Chao Lady's Shrine (Vu Gia commune) and the Phuong Chao Lady's tomb (Dai Loc commune) were classified as provincial-level historical relics in 2023.
