Leicester City have decided to sack Van Nistelrooy. |
Van Nistelrooy has struggled since taking over Leicester, and a series of failures have cast doubt on his future. The club quickly sought replacements, but the decision to sack the former Manchester United striker was delayed due to financial issues, particularly the cost of his contract.
Leicester sacked Steve Cooper last November after just 12 Premier League games, when the team were 16th in the table. Van Nistelrooy was appointed but immediately suffered a string of failures, including 17 defeats in 19 games.
Nevertheless, Van Nistelrooy remained in charge until the end of the season. More than two months after relegation and with only seven weeks left before the start of the 2025/26 Championship season, Leicester had yet to make an official announcement regarding their manager, much to the disappointment of their fans.
However, British media confirmed that Leicester had decided to sack Van Nistelrooy. They will wait until after June 30th to avoid having two manager sacks and contract compensation payments in the same financial year.
Additionally, Leicester City announced the departure of 11 players, including key figures like Jamie Vardy, Danny Ward, and Daniel Iversen. Eight other players also left: Oliver Ewing, Harvey Godsmark-Ford, Ben Grist, Deniche Hill, Liam McAlinney, Arjan Raikhy, Joe Wormleighton, and Brad Young.
This is seen as a necessary "overhaul" for the King Power Stadium team as they prepare for their new campaign in the English Championship 2025/26 season.
