Having beaten Atletico Madrid 1-0 in the second leg of the semi-final, Arsenal have reached the Champions League final. This is only the second time in history that Arsenal have had the honor of participating in this prestigious match. The first time was exactly 20 years ago. In other words, simply reaching the Champions League final is already a resounding success for Arsenal. And of course, they now have a historic opportunity to win their first ever European club title.

Just one day before Arsenal beat Atletico, their only remaining rivals in the Premier League title race, Manchester City, stumbled, dropping two points in a 3-3 draw against Everton. This sparked a new opportunity for Arsenal to win the title. Twenty-two years had passed since Arsenal last won the Premier League. This was their longest drought since their first domestic title in the 1930s.
Arsenal have never won the league title and reached the Champions League/European Cup final in the same season. Therefore, Arsenal only need to win their remaining three Premier League matches (against West Ham, Burnley, and Crystal Palace) to secure their best performance in history. Winning that final – the Champions League final – would be a feat that even Arsenal fans probably wouldn't dare dream of.

If Manchester City slip up in any of their last four matches, Arsenal's path to the Premier League title will be even wider open. This would allow Mikel Arteta's team to focus entirely on domestic competitions, instead of having to divide their resources between two competitions as they have in recent weeks. The Champions League final will take place a week after the domestic season concludes.
Not long ago, manager Arteta was asked about the effectiveness of striker Viktor Gyokeres in his first season with Arsenal. Arteta replied: "It's not the right time to talk about that." Perhaps Arteta is promising that the most noteworthy moments for Gyokeres are yet to come? Many considered Gyokeres a disappointment, especially in the first half of the season. But since the beginning of 2026, only three players across Europe have scored more goals than Gyokeres: Harry Kane (Bayern Munich), Vinicius Junior (Real Madrid), and Lamine Yamal (Barcelona). Historically, only two players have scored more goals than Gyokeres in their first season with Arsenal: Thierry Henry and Alexis Sanchez. They were both pure strikers, playing in an era where the center forward role didn't require as much extra work as Gyokeres currently does at Arsenal.
Gyokeres seems to be gradually shining at crucial moments. Last weekend, he scored two goals to help Arsenal beat Fulham 3-0. In the recent win against Atletico, Gyokeres was the one who delivered the cross for Leandro Trossard, which ultimately led to Bukayo Saka scoring the only goal. As mentioned, Gyokeres does much more than just score goals. He is a constant threat to Atletico's defense and a source of confidence for Arsenal's attack.
Saka's return, Trossard's ball recoveries, Declan Rice's tenacious defending... all deserve praise and were crucial factors in Arsenal's victories in their last two important matches. Securing a place in the Champions League final will be a vital boost to Arsenal's morale ahead of the domestic league title race.
