According to the Ministry of Education and Training, the schedule for the 2026 high school graduation exam is as follows:

Accordingly, the 2026 high school graduation exam will take place over three sessions (one session for Mathematics, one session for Literature, and one session for an elective subject).
Candidates who are 12th-grade students taking the 2026 high school graduation exam will take two compulsory subjects: Mathematics and Literature, along with one exam consisting of two subjects chosen from the remaining subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Industrial Technology, Agricultural Technology, Informatics, Foreign Language, History, Geography, Economics and Law Education. Candidates may choose to take a foreign language exam different from the one they studied in high school.
According to the Head of the Quality Management Department of the Ministry of Education and Training, the exam content is within the high school curriculum, mainly focusing on grade 12, with some questions based on knowledge from grades 10 and 11. The exam is structured according to the Ministry of Education and Training's matrix, which includes levels of thinking: knowing, understanding, and applying.
The 2026 high school graduation exam will continue to be designed to assess students' abilities and qualities, with a similar proportion of differentiating questions as in 2025, including questions that require the application of knowledge to solve real-life problems.
The multiple-choice exams follow the structure of the sample exam papers announced by the Ministry of Education and Training last year, including multiple-choice questions, true/false questions, and short-answer questions.
Literature is the only subject tested in essay format, and the questions will continue to use material outside of the textbook.

Recently, in a directive on organizing the 2026 high school graduation exam and university entrance exam, the Prime Minister requested the Minister of Education and Training to decisively direct the development of exam questions to ensure quality, security, and appropriate differentiation for the exam's purpose. Along with that, the Ministry needs to strengthen inspection and supervision to ensure discipline and order in all stages of the exam, focusing on preventing cheating in all forms, especially the use of high technology. The announcement of exam results must be accurate, timely, consistent, and transparent.
The Prime Minister also requested that the Chairpersons of the People's Committees of provinces and cities take full responsibility for the examinations in their respective localities.
Departments of Education and Training must organize teaching, review, and completion of the 12th-grade curriculum in accordance with regulations and practical realities; and proactively allocate funds to organize effective mock exams. In addition, thorough training is needed for exam staff, ensuring they understand the regulations and procedures and have solutions to prevent cheating using high-tech equipment. The grading of essay questions must strictly adhere to the answer key, scoring rubric, and guidelines, ensuring fairness and differentiation of candidates.
According to the plan, the Ministry of Education and Training will announce the results of the 2026 high school graduation exam at 8:00 AM on July 1st. The graduation recognition process will be completed no later than July 3rd.
