This morning (May 23rd), over 43,000 students in Da Nang began the entrance exam for 10th grade high school for the 2026-2027 school year. The exam is being held at 110 testing locations throughout the city (including junior and senior high schools) and 6 backup testing locations.
According to Tien Phong newspaper, after 6 am, the exam centers were already bustling with students. Parents shared that for the past week, Da Nang has experienced early morning sunshine and humid weather, so they had to try to bring their children to the exam centers while the weather was still cool.
It wasn't even 7 a.m. yet, but the sun was already blazing. The temperature was already 30 degrees Celsius in the early morning, and the lack of wind made it very uncomfortable. On the morning of May 23rd, candidates took the Literature exam, a 120-minute essay-based test. The Foreign Language exam was held that afternoon. On the morning of May 24th, the Mathematics exam was held, also 120 minutes long; and on the morning of May 25th, the specialized subject exam was held, 150 minutes long.
The weather was scorching hot, even though it was only early morning. At the examination sites, volunteers were stationed at the gates to cheer on the students, offer good wishes, and give them bottles of water.
All water bottles had their labels torn off before being allowed into the exam room. "These past few days, just standing still in the morning makes me sweat profusely, even though I've been running the air conditioner constantly at home. Today, the weather is still scorching hot for the children taking the exam; I feel so sorry for them," shared Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy, a parent whose child is taking the exam at Cam Le High School.
Parents are not only worried about their children's health due to the hot weather, but also concerned about the intense pressure of this crucial exam. In Da Nang, 43,567 students registered for the 10th grade entrance exam (those who didn't register have proactively opted for vocational training or private schools...), while the enrollment quota for public high schools and continuing education centers for the 2026-2027 school year is only 39,905. This means that approximately 91% of students who registered for the 10th grade entrance exam will be admitted to public schools.
Candidates may register for a maximum of two preferences (NV) at two different general high schools; and a maximum of two preferences (within the same specialized class) at two different specialized high schools. The first and second preferences (NV1 and NV2) for each general high school, and for each specialized subject at each specialized high school, will be considered for admission simultaneously, regardless of NV1 and NV2, based on admission scores from highest to lowest until the quota is filled (NV1 and NV2 have the same cutoff score). Candidates who have been admitted to their first preference (NV1) will not be considered for their second preference (if any). The Da Nang Department of Education and Training is currently soliciting feedback on the draft Resolution of the City People's Council regarding the approval of the Project for investment in the construction, upgrading, and expansion of school buildings and teaching and learning equipment for public kindergartens and primary and secondary schools in the city for the period 2026-2030. The total estimated cost is approximately 20,735 billion VND. Of this, the estimated cost for new construction, renovation, and upgrading of school buildings is approximately 19,246 billion VND.
