According to the Earthquake and Tsunami Warning Center, at 10:37 a.m. on September 29, an earthquake of magnitude 2.6 occurred in Mang But commune, Quang Ngai , at a focal depth of about 8.1 km.
Less than an hour earlier, at 9:54 a.m., a magnitude 3.6 earthquake had also occurred in the same area – the strongest in the series. In addition, two magnitude 3.0 earthquakes also occurred in the same area on the morning of the same day and late on September 28.
All four earthquakes were assessed at disaster risk level 0, meaning they posed no danger.
Since 2021, hundreds of earthquakes have been recorded in Quang Ngai, mainly concentrated in the old Kon Plong district. Some have caused widespread tremors, the strongest of which was a 5.0 magnitude earthquake in July 2024.
Experts recommend that people in the area continue to monitor official information from authorities to promptly respond if stronger tremors occur.
