"The Legend of Liu" scores high despite controversy

On August 30, the Chinese historical drama "Liu Zhu Ji" starring Zhang Wanyi and Wang Churan opened its score on Douban, with an average score of 8 points, through nearly 24,000 reviews.

The number of viewers who rated the film is not much, but "Liu Zhu Ji" is currently the Chinese historical romance film with the highest Douban score this year.

Some films released in 2024 have scores lower than "Liu Zhu Ji" such as "Du Hua Nian" (Truong Lang Hac, Trieu Kim Mach) opened with 6.7 points; "Truong Tuong Tu 2" (Duong Tu, Truong Van Y, Dang Vi) dropped from 6.6 to 6 points; "Mac Vu Van Gian" (Vuong Tinh Viet, Ngo Can Ngon) reached 6.9 points; "Tich Hoa Chi" (Truong Tinh Nghi, Ho Nhat Thien) reached 6.7 points; "Hoa Gian Lenh" (Cuc Tinh Y, Luu Hoc Nghi) reached 5.5 points...

“Liu Zhu Yi” is adapted from the novel “Qiao Zang” by author Kuang Shang Jia Kuang. The film revolves around the story of Liu Mien Duong (Wang Suo Ran), the daughter of a fallen official family who must marry into the capital.

On the way, Liu Mian Tang was robbed of her bride and became the wife of a bandit. But an unexpected incident occurred, she lost her memory and mistook Thôi Hành Chu (Trương Vãn Ý), a royal prince, as her husband.

Although knowing the truth, Thôi Hành Chu still happily accepted to be Liễu Miên Đường's "fake husband" for personal purposes. The two began a life of marriage first and love later.

When the film aired, Truong Van Y caused controversy about his acting. Many viewers commented that the character Thoi Hanh Chu in the original work was portrayed as a talented, cold, and dignified prince, but Truong Van Y's acting made viewers mistake him for a foolish, stupid prince.

However, the film's script is considered to have more reasonable changes compared to the original. Many opinions say that the later developments of the film become more and more attractive. In addition to Truong Van Y's criticized scenes, the acting of the female lead Vuong So Nhien is rated quite positively.
