Between now and the end of 2024, 11 key transportation projects are targeted for completion and commissioning. Contractors are racing against time to complete the final stages.

According to observations by reporters from Giao Thong Newspaper, at the construction sites of key transportation projects, workers and machinery are accelerating the construction pace to ensure the project's progress.

Many projects are progressing well.

In the southern part of Ho Chi Minh City, the Phuoc Long and Rach Dia bridges (connecting District 7 and Nha Be District) are rapidly nearing completion. Currently, all 10 bridge piers of the Phuoc Long bridge have been completed, and 7 out of 9 bridge spans have had their girders installed.

The construction unit has completed the roadbed and retaining walls on the Nha Be district side; and is continuing construction on the remaining part in District 7. Items such as bridge deck construction, railing installation, asphalt paving preparation, completion of piers and girder installation... are being accelerated. The overall project progress has reached approximately 80%, and is expected to be completed in 2024.

Similarly, the main components of the Rach Dia bridge have also been completed, with the bridge spans joined together, connecting the two banks. Currently, the construction unit is urgently completing the final auxiliary items to open the bridge to traffic in December.

Also in the southern part of the city, the Nguyen Van Linh - Nguyen Huu Tho underpass project (District 7) has reached approximately 83% completion. The entire project will be completed before December 31st as planned. This is one of the projects with relatively good progress. Previously, a branch of this underpass project was opened to traffic on October 4th.

In the eastern part of the city, a section of the Tang Long bridge is under construction and is scheduled to open to traffic in 2024. According to information from the Department of Transportation, the contractor is currently installing the girders for the end spans, after which they will complete the bridge deck.

At the gateway to Tan Son Nhat Airport, the Tran Quoc Hoan - Cong Hoa connecting road project has reached 85% completion. The investor stated that some construction packages are ahead of schedule compared to the contract. However, compensation and land clearance for the project have not yet been completed, and some households have not yet relocated.

Similarly, at the National Highway 50 upgrade and expansion project (Binh Chanh district), the overall progress has reached approximately 56% of the work volume. Construction packages No. 1, 2, 3, and 4, which build the parallel section, have achieved 75% completion. Meanwhile, packages 5, 6, and 7, which are part of the expansion of the existing National Highway 50, have achieved 19% completion. This project is also facing difficulties due to land acquisition issues involving 15 households, as well as obstacles related to technical infrastructure such as electricity, water, and telecommunications.

Specifically at the An Phu intersection, according to the plan, the HC1 underpass project will open to traffic by the end of 2024. However, the XL5 package for the construction of the HC1-01 underpass has only completed pillars K1 to K8 and K14 to K19, and is currently working on K12 and K13. The progress of this package is approximately 64%, and it is expected to open to traffic in January 2025.

At the Duong Quang Ham road expansion project (Go Vap district), construction materials are piled haphazardly along the route; machinery, equipment, and workers are working frantically day and night.

According to the Department of Transportation, contractors are currently focusing on constructing items such as drainage systems and widening roads within the areas already handed over by local authorities, striving to complete the work in 2024. However, the project is currently stalled due to the relocation of the medium and low-voltage power grid.

Although the Department of Transport set a target of completion in 2024, the Ho Chi Minh City Distribution Grid Project Management Board (Ho Chi Minh City Power Corporation) affirmed that it cannot complete the relocation and undergrounding of the power system in 2024. To complete the relocation and undergrounding of the power grid for this project, the Ho Chi Minh City Distribution Grid Project Management Board needs approximately 6 months from the time it takes over the entire site.

It is expected that the power poles on Duong Quang Ham street will only be completely relocated in the second quarter of 2025, allowing the road to be fully completed.

Regarding the project's progress, the Transportation Department reports that it has reached 70% completion. Currently, the contractor is constructing the superstructure of the main bridge and completing the widened road surface and sidewalks.

Regarding the Tan Ky - Tan Quy road upgrade and expansion project, which is expected to form a transportation artery connecting National Highway 1A to the city center and Tan Son Nhat International Airport, the project is slowly nearing completion. Most of the road's components are almost finished, with only the power poles still under construction and relocation by the electricity company.

As for the right side, the section from Nuoc Den canal to Ma Lo road is under construction and is expected to have its poles removed by mid-November 2024.

By the end of December 2024, a series of key projects are expected to be completed, including: Tan Ky - Tan Quy bridge (Binh Tan district), Phuoc Long, Rach Dia (connecting District 7 and Nha Be district); Tang Long (Thu Duc City); HC1 tunnel and the entire Nguyen Van Linh - Nguyen Huu Tho intersection (District 7); Tran Quoc Hoan - Cong Hoa road (Tan Binh district); Duong Quang Ham (Go Vap district); 4.3km of parallel road to National Highway 50 under the National Highway 50 construction and expansion project (Binh Chanh district); HC1 underpass of the An Phu intersection construction project (Thu Duc City).
