P MUST PRODUCE SPIRITUAL "WEALTH" FOR FANS
Despite participating in the World Cup for the first time, the Vietnamese women's national team still has its own ambitions. Stepping onto the world stage, coach Mai Duc Chung affirmed that the entire team will strive to perform well and bring glory to the spirit of Vietnamese women. To achieve this goal, a plan to upgrade the team was proposed at the beginning of 2022, right after Huynh Nhu and her teammates qualified for the World Cup. The players' persistent efforts have begun to yield "sweet fruits".
After a successful three-week training camp, highlighted by a memorable match against Germany, the Vietnamese women's national team returned home on June 27th to continue preparations for the 2023 World Cup. Speaking at the awards ceremony for the Vietnamese women's team at the Vietnam Football Federation headquarters ( Hanoi ), Coach Mai Duc Chung shared that he had instilled a sense of national pride in each of the Vietnamese female players, which enabled the entire team to always play with the highest determination.

Coach Mai Duc Chung said: "I always affirm to my players that the Vietnamese women's national team is descended from Lac Hong, descendants of the Trung Sisters. You are Vietnamese women, and you must show the spirit of Vietnamese women under the red flag with a yellow star. Saluting the flag is the happiest and most joyful moment. I want the players to understand that when millions of people are watching, the team must live up to that trust and love. The team must produce 'spiritual wealth' to motivate and bring joy to the people. In every match, every player needs to show the will and spirit of Vietnamese women. I want the players to be able to lose in terms of skill, but not in terms of solidarity and fighting spirit."
" WHEN THE BALL GOES INTO THE NET, IT'S A VERY SPECIAL FEELING"
The tenacious 90-minute performance against the German women's team, a top contender for the 2023 World Cup title, is proof of the remarkable progress made by the Vietnamese women's team in narrowing the gap with World Cup-level standards. Scoring a memorable goal against Germany, young striker Thanh Nhã still remembers the sweet taste of seeing the opponent's net ripple at the Berberer Berg stadium. "Before the match, my teammates and I decided to try to lose by as small a margin as possible. But once the game started, the whole team was determined to fight hard to achieve the best possible result. In the counter-attack, I called Ngân Thị Vạn Sự to ask for the ball, then I just tried to push the ball forward. I also observed and then took the shot. When the ball went into the net, the feeling was very special; we were very happy to be able to contribute to the Vietnamese women's team's success."
Thanh Nhã and her teammates returned to Vietnam on June 27th.
At the 2023 World Cup, the Vietnamese women's national team will face the USA (the reigning world champions), the Netherlands (the reigning world runners-up), and Portugal. Before the tournament, the Vietnamese women's team will play two friendly matches against Spain (ranked 6th in the world) and host nation New Zealand (ranked 26th). Playing against high-level teams during training will help the Vietnamese women's team improve their skills and confidence.
A VALUABLE SOURCE OF MOTIVATION
The Vietnamese women's national team received a reward of 1 billion VND in cash and 36 gold bars, each engraved with their names, from representatives of TCP Vietnam Company - Red Bull brand, for their record-breaking achievement of winning the SEA Games four times in a row (out of a total of eight titles), and for honoring the persistent efforts of the team and coaching staff in their journey to qualify for the 2023 World Cup.
VFF General Secretary Duong Nghiep Khoi shared: "Vietnamese football history officially turned a new page when the golden girls of the Vietnamese women's national team secured a ticket to the 2023 World Cup. On this journey to the big stage, we had the opportunity to meet and compete against very strong opponents such as the US, Netherlands, and Portugal women's national teams. But nothing can be stronger than determination, fighting spirit, and dedication to the fans and to the national football scene."
