In response to the increasing saltwater intrusion during the 2024-2025 dry season, the Long An Provincial People's Committee has directed relevant agencies to implement response measures to protect water resources for domestic use and agricultural production.
According to the National Center for Meteorological and Hydrological Forecasting, the peak of saltwater intrusion in Long An province is expected to occur from March to April 2025, especially during the periods from March 10-15, March 29 - April 3, and April 27 - May 1. To proactively respond, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Long An province has requested relevant agencies to urgently implement solutions to protect water resources and minimize damage caused by drought and saltwater intrusion.
Therefore, the province will closely monitor the saltwater intrusion situation and update forecasts to provide timely warnings to the people. At the same time, the province will implement technical measures such as controlling water quality, operating the saltwater intrusion prevention sluice gate system, regulating water resources appropriately, and guiding people to apply water-saving irrigation methods to protect agricultural production.
In addition, localities at high risk of water shortages will be reviewed, and backup water sources from boreholes will be utilized to ensure the supply of water for daily use. Important irrigation works will also be inspected and repaired promptly to effectively prevent saltwater intrusion and store freshwater.
