Lung Sien 'recovers' after floods.

From the beginning of October 2025, Lung Sien village, Vinh Thong commune, was one of the areas most severely affected by the remnants of typhoons No. 10 and No. 11. Floodwaters rose high, in some places submerging houses above the rooftops. The entire village was isolated for nearly a month, and many households had to evacuate to safe areas. Now that the water has receded, life is gradually returning to normal. Houses, roads, and gardens are being rebuilt by the villagers' hands, and the mud is being cleaned away...

The Lung Sien Kindergarten, once submerged in water, is now bustling with activity again. It's only the second day students have returned to class after the storm, but the classrooms are clean, and new learning materials and toys have been prepared. The teachers are busy cleaning and rearranging desks, chairs, and supplies to welcome the students back. The laughter, singing, and babbling of children fill the still-messy landscape after the storm, bringing warmth and renewed life.

Teacher Doanh Thi Moi, a teacher at Lung Sien School, shared: "During the floods, the entire school was submerged in water, and all the school supplies were swept away or damaged. When the water receded, we, along with parents, the police, and the military, cleaned everything up. And it was truly touching to receive so much material and spiritual support from everyone for the teachers and students at the school."

The floodwaters have receded in Lung Sien village, but Mrs. Luc Thi Hoa's family is still temporarily staying in the village's community center because their old house collapsed when it was submerged. At 80 years old, Mrs. Hoa is still shaken when recalling the historic flood: "I've lived here my whole life, but I've never seen the water so deep. The house collapsed, all the belongings were swept away. Luckily, the authorities provided timely assistance, and my children and grandchildren encouraged each other to persevere. Now I just hope to have a stable place to live..."

Not far away, the family of Mr. Ban Van Phay was also cleaning up their severely damaged house. The walls were cracked, the roof was broken, but he and his relatives persevered in repairing it. Mr. Ban Van Phay said: "The house was flooded up to the roof. After the water receded, all the furniture, rice, corn... were ruined. For the first few days, the sight was heartbreaking. But with the help of the commune and village authorities and the villagers, we have the motivation to start over."

Mr. Nguyen Quoc Hoi , Chairman of the People's Committee of Vinh Thong commune, said: In Lung Sien alone, 14 households were severely flooded, and many had to be urgently evacuated. After the water receded, the local authorities organized cleanup, disinfection, provided rice and essential supplies, and mobilized charitable groups to help people stabilize their lives as soon as possible.

To date, Vinh Thong commune has received and distributed relief supplies from 56 charitable groups inside and outside the province, totaling hundreds of millions of dong, thousands of boxes of instant noodles, drinking water, milk, and clothing. The local government is proposing the construction of a resettlement area for 48 households at risk of landslides and severe flooding (including 14 households in Lung Sien); and investment in a 1.5km bypass road to ensure the safety and long-term stability of people's lives.

Beneath the thick layer of mud, the first green shoots have emerged. Amidst the devastation left behind by the flood, the people of Lung Sien remain resilient and determined. Life here is slowly but steadily reviving, reflecting the strength and faith of the people in this flood-stricken region.
