Reasons why Korean tourists like Phu Quoc

VnExpressVnExpress06/11/2023

In Kien Giang, in just 5 hours, Korean tourists can fly from winter to summer when visiting Phu Quoc to escape the cold weather at the end of the year.

The South Korean newspaper AsiaA outlines the reasons why South Korean tourists are increasingly fond of and choosing to visit Phu Quoc Island in Vietnam.

Accordingly, the island is a suitable destination for tourists who want to enjoy a warm winter, temporarily forgetting about bulky coats and opting for light, cool clothing to stroll along the fine white sand beaches and emerald green sea. It only takes 5 hours for Korean tourists to "fly from winter to summer" to escape the cold, AsiaA wrote.

"Phu Quoc boasts beautiful natural scenery, warm weather year-round with an average temperature of only 27 degrees Celsius, and winter is especially the best time to visit, " suggested Lee Chae-hyeon, a tourism expert from the newspaper.

Korean newspapers also praised the natural beauty of Phu Quoc Island, noting that more than half of the island is protected by UNESCO as a world biosphere reserve. The 150 km long coastline, with its gentle waves and crystal-clear turquoise waters, is "perfect for relaxing and enjoying various water sports ." For a different way to enjoy the seascape, visitors can take the Guinness World Record-breaking 3-wire cable car (nearly 8 km) to Hon Thom Island. The 15-minute cable car ride offers panoramic views of the southern Phu Quoc sea from above.

Upon arriving at Hon Thom, visitors can continue to experience over 70 thrilling rides themed "adventure on a deserted island" at Sun World Hon Thom. Aquatopia Park, located within the complex, is the most modern water park in Southeast Asia.

The newspaper also mentioned Bai Sao, one of the island's two most famous beaches, which was once voted "the most beautiful beach in the world" by CNN .

Phu Quoc's appeal also lies in the beauty of its local culture blended with modernity. The ability to experience both local culture and luxurious experiences at reasonable prices is one of the factors that makes Phu Quoc a popular choice for Korean tourists.

Regarding local experiences, Lee Chae-hyeon suggests visiting Dinh Cau, a temple built on a small rocky outcrop by the sea. Phu Quoc fishermen come here twice a month to pray for safe voyages. If you visit in the morning, you can watch the locals perform the rituals, while in the evening you can admire the sunset and take a walk to the nearby night market.

"At the night market, you'll be drooling at the sight of tanks overflowing with freshly caught seafood. It's also an ideal place to buy souvenirs, delicious fresh fruit, and Phu Quoc's famous pearls," Lee Chae-hyeon suggests.

The newspaper also recommended that tourists visit Phu Quoc Prison, comparing it to Seodaemun in South Korea, which is also a popular tourist attraction.

Other suggested experiences for Korean tourists include visiting fish sauce production facilities and pepper gardens. AsiaA particularly praised the high-quality pepper from Phu Quoc, noting that world-renowned chefs come here in person to select and purchase it. This is also an attractive experience for Korean tourists.

Leading airlines in South Korea have had to rush to open direct flights to Phu Quoc to serve the year-end tourist season, meeting the rapidly increasing demand from the country's citizens.

Previously, the Yonhap news agency also described resorts in Phu Quoc as a paradise for relaxation and family tourism, calling the Pearl Island the "Maldives of Vietnam".
