At noon on February 26th, transport vehicles carrying the personal belongings of the elderly artists arrived at the Ho Chi Minh City Artists' Retirement Home. Following the death of artist Le Tham at the age of 87, the Artists' Retirement Home in District 8, Ho Chi Minh City, now houses six artists: Dieu Hien, Ngoc Dang, Hoa Tranh, Ngoc Be, Lam Son, and Dang Thi Xuan.

However, during this "move to a new home," artist Hoa Tranh requested permission from the management to return home to her family. Therefore, the Thi Nghe Nursing Home and the Ho Chi Minh City Theater Association assisted five veteran artists, along with artists Mac Can and Huynh Thanh Tra, in moving their personal belongings and items to their new residence.

Artist Ngoc Dang bids farewell to playwright Duc Hien, who has been a companion to the Ho Chi Minh City Artists' Retirement Home for many decades.

"We were helped to pack our belongings a day in advance, so that tomorrow morning, February 27th, there will be a welcome program organized by the Thi Nghe Nursing Home. I'm very excited; for the past few days, I've been packing my belongings and clothes into cardboard boxes with my daughter, artist Dieu Thanh, in preparation for moving out. I feel very emotional," shared Meritorious Artist Dieu Hien as she placed the last shirt into a cardboard box.

The oldest artist at the Ho Chi Minh City Artists' Retirement Home is artist Ngoc Dang, who has been involved in the arts for many decades. "From now on, I will no longer be at the Artists' Retirement Home. Right now, the person I miss most is People's Artist Phung Ha. She built this welfare facility for retired veteran artists like us, providing us with a place to live," artist Ngoc Dang said emotionally.

Members of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports' Youth Union transported the artists' personal belongings to the vehicles.

Previously, the Ho Chi Minh City Artists' Retirement Home housed only one male artist, Lam Son. He was a leading actor in the Tram Vang Cai Luong (Vietnamese traditional opera) troupe. There was also artist Ngoc Be, a pianist who played in many plays for the Huong Mua Thu Cai Luong troupe and for Dang Thi Xuan.

She was in charge of the theater's kitchen. She was orphaned at a young age; she worked in the city's traditional opera troupe as a costume designer, and later as a cook for the troupes.

People's Artist Trinh Kim Chi and members of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports' Youth Union are transporting the artists' personal belongings to the vehicles.

People's Artist Trinh Kim Chi, Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh City Theater Association, said: "The artists have lived together for a long time, so this time moving to a new house makes everyone feel emotional because they are leaving their familiar homes. The artists all live harmoniously and treat each other like family."

Writer and artist Mac Can said: "I am happy and deeply moved, and very grateful for the kindness of those who have helped me and treated me like family."

Artist Mac Can wiped away tears, looking at his new room where staff were helping him move his belongings in. From now on, he will have a peaceful space to live with his fellow artists.
