Flower growers in Ho Chi Minh City are busy removing wire, plucking leaves, and transporting their apricot blossom trees to sales points in time to showcase their wares to customers celebrating Tet.

Having just brought out more than 30 Tet apricot blossom trees of the Thu Duc variety to the sidewalk of Pham Van Dong Street (Thu Duc City), Mr. Nguyen Van Duc, owner of Duc Thinh apricot blossom garden, said that the quality of apricot blossoms this year is relatively good, so the garden expects to supply about 120 trees of various types, a slight increase compared to last year.

The expected selling price ranges from 5 to 9 million VND per tree, including delivery within the city. In the adjacent open space, the owner of the Ha Ba Tran apricot blossom garden has also brought out hundreds of apricot blossom trees of various sizes for display and sale. In this garden, many workers are also busily removing wire and pruning the leaves of the apricot blossom trees.

Meanwhile, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Phuong, owner of Phuong Binh apricot blossom garden (Thu Duc City), said that some trees have been planned to bloom early to serve customers who have placed orders to rent or buy them for the New Year's Eve celebration and for delivery to the North (mainly Hanoi ).

"The cold weather in the North slows down the blooming of buds, so gardeners in the South have to remove the leaves early and force the buds to turn green so that when they bring them to the North, they can compensate for the cold weather and the trees will bloom just in time for Tet," Mr. Phuong explained.

According to many gardeners, the quality of apricot blossom trees this year is good, and with Tet approaching, there are not many concerns about the impact of weather or the supply of apricot blossom trees in Ho Chi Minh City. Furthermore, purchasing power this year is likely to be slower than in previous years, so many gardeners are setting reasonable prices for selling and renting at the beginning of the season.

Furthermore, according to traders, the price of apricot blossoms in Ho Chi Minh City also depends to some extent on the quantity of apricot blossoms from the Southwestern region (mainly Ben Tre ) and the Central region (mainly Binh Dinh) that are brought to Ho Chi Minh City. These two sources of supply only become abundant from around the 20th day of the lunar month onwards.

As a veteran seller of apricot blossom trees in Binh Dinh, Mr. Nguyen Anh Dung (An Nhon, Binh Dinh) said that this year the supply of apricot blossom trees in An Nhon - considered the capital of apricot blossom trees in Binh Dinh - is relatively stable. Therefore, the amount of apricot blossom trees brought to Ho Chi Minh City by many gardeners and traders is expected to remain unchanged compared to previous years, and the selling price is likely to remain stable as in previous years, commonly ranging from 2 to 4 million VND per tree depending on size.

Increase sales of apricot blossoms through online channels.

Many gardeners have stated that they will be boosting their sales and rentals of apricot blossom trees through online channels such as building websites and live-streaming sales on social media platforms (TikTok, Facebook, etc.).

According to Mr. Nguyen Dinh, owner of Dinh Quyen apricot blossom garden (Thu Duc City), the company is boosting its online channel by posting dozens of apricot blossom trees for rent online at prices ranging from 6 to 40 million VND per tree, along with attractive discounts, free shipping, and complimentary decoration packages.

Most grafted apricot trees are 1-2.5m tall and 1-2m in diameter to suit all customers, from private homes to companies and government agencies.

"More than 20 customers have rented apricot blossom trees through online channels, accounting for about 30% of the total number of customers, and double the number compared to last year. The company expects the next two peak weeks to see a significant increase," Mr. Dinh said.
