Many Manchester United fans find it puzzling why Kobbie Mainoo is always relegated to the bench. |
The Manchester United academy product no longer sees a future at Old Trafford under manager Ruben Amorim. Mainoo has yet to start a Premier League game this season, and the lack of playing time is increasingly frustrating him.
The situation escalated when Mainoo's brother wore a T-shirt with the words "Free Kobbie Mainoo" at Old Trafford during the 4-4 draw with Bournemouth earlier this week. However, manager Amorim insisted this would not affect his team selection, and he still highly values Mainoo's talent.
Mainoo now wants to leave permanently. If a loan deal with a buy-out clause is offered in January, he will seriously consider it. Previously, Mainoo only wanted to leave on loan to gain playing experience, but the situation has changed significantly recently.
Napoli are leading the race to sign Mainoo, with hopes growing stronger under Antonio Conte. The Italian club want to reunite him with other former Manchester United players such as Scott McTominay and Rasmus Hojlund.
Initially, Manchester United's stance was not to actively sell Mainoo, but with the player showing signs of "rebellion," the club was forced to consider it if they received financially reasonable offers.
