Real Betis have announced they cannot afford the financial package agreed with Man Utd. They had previously agreed to sign the Brazilian striker for £21.6m with a clause to pay Man Utd 50% of the transfer fee if Antony was sold in the future. The Red Devils have allowed the Brazilian player to travel to Spain to negotiate personal terms.

However, problems arose over Antony's compensation, outstanding wages and personal terms, with Real Betis claiming the overall cost was too high, forcing them to withdraw.
The Spanish club announced: “No agreement has been reached. Real Betis cannot meet the transfer fee and payments that Man Utd need to settle with the player before the transaction is completed.”
Meanwhile, Man Utd believe that this could just be a bargaining chip from Real Betis. The La Liga team also left open the possibility of renegotiating, provided the overall fee is reduced.

Antony, who has two years left on his contract at United, impressed during a short loan spell at Betis earlier this year. He has started 15 La Liga games, scoring five goals and assisting twice, and was nominated for the Player of the Month award.
Since his £85m move to Man Utd, Antony has been a disappointment. In 96 games, he has scored just 12 goals and provided nine assists. At international level, Antony has 16 appearances for Brazil, most recently being called up in June 2023 but not used.
Antony's future remains uncertain. It is possible that he will be on the bench for the entire next season at Man Utd if he cannot find a way out.
