- 5 clean water systems bring water to children in Ho Chi Minh City.
Phong Tho is a mountainous border district located in the northern part of Lai Chau province, with 96% of its population being ethnic minorities. Its remote location creates numerous difficulties and challenges in accessing clean water for the people of Phong Tho district. Clean water is fundamental to health and helps limit the spread of diseases, especially for children in rural families. Therefore, bringing clean water to ethnic minority communities like Phong Tho district is extremely necessary.
Ms. Mai Thi Hong Sim, Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan, and the Principal of Mu Sang Primary School visited the water supply pump.
With support from the MoMo Piggy Bank Community and Miss Universe Vietnam 2017 H'Hen Niê, VCF's Clean Water program has installed a well and pumping system to provide clean water for students and teachers at Mu Sang Ethnic Boarding Primary School in Phong Tho District. Maintenance costs and replacement parts for the system are covered by a one-year warranty.
For the first time, 500 students and 40 teachers at Mu Sang Ethnic Boarding Primary School no longer have to use rainwater from unsanitary storage tanks. The students and teachers can now use clean water at school without having to trek over 1.5km uphill to fetch water from the nearest stream. This will help reduce waterborne diseases such as diarrhea, dysentery, typhoid, E. coli infections, and many others. In turn, it will improve the health and access to education for poor ethnic minority children in the mountainous province of Lai Chau.
Representatives from VCF and Miss H'Hen Niê presented a symbolic sponsorship plaque to representatives from Phong Tho district and Mu Sang Primary School.
Mr. Mai Anh Thang, Principal of Mu Sang Ethnic Boarding Primary School, shared: “All the staff, teachers, and students of the school are very happy to receive support to install a well and water pumping system. From now on, ethnic minority students can use clean water right at school without having to go through many difficulties and hardships as before. No words can express our gratitude to all the sponsors and philanthropists who have brought opportunities and a better life to students in remote and disadvantaged areas like ours.”
“We are honored to receive support from the MoMo Piggy Bank Community and the companionship of Miss H’Hen Niê to provide clean water to disadvantaged communities in Lai Châu province. With the trust and support from all the compassionate hearts of the MoMo Piggy Bank Community, VCF is committed to continuing to improve the lives and quality of healthcare for children and help change the lives of thousands of Vietnamese people in need,” said Mr. Rad Kivette, CEO of VinaCapital Foundation.
Miss H'Hen Niê led first-grade students into the Opening Ceremony of the new school year.
