Sources of inspiration for literature and art.

In early November 2024, the Dak Nong Provincial Association of Literature and Arts hosted an intensive literary and artistic workshop on the UNESCO Global Geopark Dak Nong. The workshop included the participation of 22 authors from various disciplines: literature, photography, fine arts, dance, and screenwriting, from the provinces of Ha Giang, Cao Bang , Lang Son, and Dak Nong.

For artist Pham Hung, from the Ha Giang Provincial Association of Literature and Arts, before the trip, his preconceived notions of Dak Nong were limited to vast coffee and pepper plantations. However, upon arriving, he was completely astonished by the scenery and people of this sunny and windy plateau.

“Upon arrival, our group of artists was warmly and hospitably welcomed by the artists of Dak Nong. This made me feel that this wasn't just a business trip, but a journey back to myself, back to my homeland,” shared painter Pham Hung.

Artists and writers from various disciplines—literature, photography, fine arts, dance, and screenwriting—from provinces with UNESCO Global Geopark systems, including Ha Giang, Cao Bang, Lang Son , and Dak Nong, participated in the 2024 intensive arts and culture workshop focusing on the Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark.

During his exploration and search for inspiration in Dak Nong, artist Pham Hung gained many ideas and themes for his artwork. Hung said that while exploring volcanic caves, placing his feet on volcanic rocks allowed him to feel the energy from Mother Earth, from the pristine nature, and from stories spanning hundreds of millions of years. This energy inspired him during this trip.

“Dak Nong gives me the feeling of a land of art, where nature and people have become great works of art. Like other artists who come here, I try to use all my intellect and energy to create and recreate a part of the masterpiece that Mother Nature has painstakingly created over hundreds of millions of years. However, due to time constraints, I hope to dedicate more time to further explore the great artistic landscape of Dak Nong in the future,” shared painter Pham Hung.

Sharing his feelings about the experience of going on a field trip to create artwork with colleagues and artists from Ha Giang, Cao Bang, and Lang Son provinces, photographer Tran Hong Van from the Dak Nong Provincial Association of Literature and Arts said that although it was their first meeting, their shared passion for art was the bond that connected the members of the group. At this creative camp, he had the opportunity to interact and share professional knowledge and creative experiences with artists from the northern provinces.

"Each trip is an opportunity for me to learn, understand more, feel more deeply, and gain new inspiration for my creations about the nature and people of Dak Nong," shared photographer Tran Hong Van.

Participating in the writing camp, writer Pham Thanh Thang from the Cao Bang Provincial Association of Literature and Arts shared that he was completely impressed by the pristine nature and the people with their unique culture in this place. Through this trip, he hopes to create a longer work, like an epic poem, that will connect the two places of Cao Bang and Dak Nong.

Artists participating in the creative camp took a commemorative photo with artisans from the Dan Tinh and Then singing club in Nam Tan village, Nam Da commune, Krong No district.

“I find that the folk literature of the Tay and Nung ethnic groups in Cao Bang has some similarities with the epics of the local ethnic minorities in Dak Nong. At the end of this trip, I hope to not only create a work expressing my feelings about the land I visited, but more importantly, through art and culture, I hope to connect the two heritage regions, the two localities of Cao Bang and Dak Nong. Through this, I hope to help promote the image of the nature, people, and heritage values of the Cao Bang Geopark,” Thang said.

Enhance creative activities.

According to Mr. Dang Ba Canh, Chairman of the Dak Nong Provincial Association of Literature and Arts, the UNESCO Global Geopark Dak Nong is fertile ground for literature and art. The creative camp is a healthy playground that encourages the creative spirit of artists and writers to produce high-quality literary and artistic works about the UNESCO Global Geopark Dak Nong. This will contribute to the promotion and introduction of the heritage values of the Global Geopark in Dak Nong to domestic and international friends.
