Impersonating a financial company to commit fraud.

Taking advantage of people's need for loans to support their lives, unscrupulous individuals have impersonated legitimate financial companies, using the guise of quick loans and convenient procedures to defraud customers.

Hanoi police have just warned about the fraudulent practice of impersonating financial companies. The perpetrators' tactic involves creating fake social media accounts impersonating financial companies such as EVNFinance, EasyCredit, HomeCredit, Mcredit, FECredit, etc. They then run advertisements promoting loan services with low interest rates, no collateral required, no credit check, and claiming that only a citizen's identity card is needed to borrow money.

When contacted, the perpetrators persuade victims to transfer money to assist with loan verification and approval. After the victims transfer the money, these perpetrators continue to use the excuse of errors in loan application documents or procedures to request additional payments to "secure the loan," "unfreeze the loan," or "fix system errors."

Many victims have fallen into the trap and had their money stolen by the perpetrators. Not only do the victims lose the money they transferred, but their personal information may also be leaked, affecting their lives.

To prevent fraud, the Hanoi City Police advise citizens to be vigilant against any messages or calls from individuals claiming to be "employees of financial companies"; absolutely do not transfer money or make any payments in advance to these individuals to disburse loans; and verify loan information through the hotlines of financial companies listed on the website of the State Bank of Vietnam at: www.sbs.gov.vn.

The police advise people not to access suspicious links, especially those requesting information or payment; and not to provide personal information or bank account numbers to strangers.

At the same time, people should increase their vigilance and proactively inform and educate their relatives and friends to avoid falling into these traps. Furthermore, people should absolutely not seek help from social media pages that claim to offer assistance in recovering money lost to scams, to avoid being tricked again. When encountering cases with signs of fraud, people should promptly report them to the police to prevent and handle them according to the law.
