Le Huong Giang is the first blind MC in VTV history with the program Life is still beautiful . Through her MC work at VTV4, she hopes to change the way society views people with disabilities. In addition to her television work, she is also a professional clinical psychologist and free projects for the disabled community with the vision of building an equal society.

- In addition to her job as MC of "Life is still beautiful" on VTV4, Le Huong Giang works in the field of clinical psychology. What motivated you to pursue this path?

I have two areas of work. The first is professional therapeutic counseling for people, mainly 18 years and older. The focus is on helping them discover their self-worth and find meaning in life.

In the era of rapid technological development, people gradually begin to feel worthless. The amount of information is too much, making it difficult for them to make decisions or define themselves. Not only young people, but also people in their 40s and 50s are worried about AI developing too quickly, not knowing where their abilities are. There are also people in their 70s and 80s who share with me that they no longer feel meaningful to their families.

I believe that when people find their self-worth and meaning in life, they will have enough effort to cope with difficulties.

The second is the project Psychological Corner of Happiness - a free mental health care program for the community, especially for people with disabilities, cancer patients, the LGBTQ+ community and their families. The cost of psychological counseling is not cheap, so I want to create a social project that is easily accessible to everyone.

- The psychology profession is very demanding emotionally and mentally. As someone who has experienced many challenges in life, do you sometimes feel exhausted and need someone to listen and share with?

A psychologist is not someone who does not have psychological problems, but someone who knows when he is in trouble and where to find help.

There are some very difficult cases, for example, patients with personality disorders who are not always cooperative. Sometimes I feel that all my knowledge and skills do not seem to help them. At that time, I discuss with my colleagues to find the best way to support them.

For children and teenagers, not everyone is lucky enough to have a supportive family. Some parents are too busy with work or personal pain, making it difficult to take care of their children. Sometimes psychologists can only do so much, to change the child's life, they need the support of their parents, but they do not always cooperate.

There are times when I feel so sorry for the child but can’t help because I’m not the parent. Luckily, with my professional knowledge, I know how to work with these difficult emotions.

- From MC to psychologist, how do you manage your time and energy to maintain a work-life balance?

The work I do is my passion so I don’t feel tired. There are days when I film the show from 5am the day before to 3am the next day but because I love it, I feel happy working with my colleagues.

I don't need to clearly divide working time and resting time. When I have free time, I learn more languages or specialized knowledge. I like to travel , every year I take my family to new lands, chat with friends, watch music shows.

The job is quite flexible. Unless there is a special program that requires 100% focus, usually the staff will notify the schedule in advance. During the week, I spend 1-2 days filming the program, the rest of the time on psychological work and social projects. I take 1-2 days off completely to recover energy and take care of my family.

- With all that you have achieved, what is still the biggest challenge on the path you have chosen? And what is the biggest dream that you want to realize in the coming years?

Regarding television, the biggest challenge is that there are not many crews that give me the opportunity to participate. Many people do not have experience working with the visually impaired, so they are hesitant.

I am lucky to work at VTV4 Foreign Affairs Department with great colleagues. They never say they don't know how to work with me, but always ask how to best collaborate. It is where I live with passion and convey the desired value.

In the future, I want to develop the project “Psychological Corner of Happiness” to many provinces and cities, supporting people with disabilities and their families. Currently, the project mainly serves Hanoi and neighboring provinces. In other provinces, many people do not dare to communicate with the outside world, just stay at home. This is very unfortunate.

I believe that people with disabilities, if given the opportunity to study and work, will not be a burden to society but will be a force contributing their intelligence and capacity to develop society. That is the path I have chosen since childhood and will pursue for the rest of my life.
