Superstar Lionel Messi received his first individual award of the season in Ligue 1, when he was voted "Best Foreign Player" by the fans.
The Ligue 1 organizers selected four nominees – Messi, Alexis Sanchez, Jonathan David, and Folarin Balogun – for fans to vote online. The results on June 26th showed Messi receiving 52.1% of the votes, compared to second-place Sanchez with 23.5%. This marks Messi's first individual award in Ligue 1, and possibly his last, as he has since left PSG for Inter Miami.

This award is given to the most impressive non-French players of the season. Last season, when Messi was underperforming, Brazilian midfielder Lucas Paqueta won the award thanks to his outstanding form with Lyon.
Messi scored 16 goals and provided 16 assists in 32 Ligue 1 matches in the 2022-2023 season, helping PSG win the title. He is one of only two players to have scored and assisted more than 15 goals in all five European competitions last season, alongside Antoine Griezmann.
The Ligue 1 Player of the Season award went to striker Kylian Mbappe, with 28 goals and five assists. Messi and Mbappe also appeared in the Team of the Season, along with two other teammates, Achraf Hakimi and Nuno Mendes.
Messi is also leading the race for the 2023 Ballon d'Or, according to Opta , with Erling Haaland and Mbappe in second place. The nominations will be announced on September 6, 2023, and the awards ceremony will take place on October 30, 2023. Messi holds the record for winning seven Ballon d'Or awards, two more than second-place Cristiano Ronaldo.
