Microsoft has officially kicked off the rollout of Windows 11 2025 Update, also known as Windows 11 25H2 – the next major update for the Windows 11 operating system. However, this is an optional update and will be distributed in stages, with top priority given to the most compatible devices.
It's worth noting that Microsoft has confirmed that Windows 11 25H2 will not add any new features compared to the previous 24H2 version. In fact, both versions use the same core system files, which means there won't be any noticeable differences in the user experience.

Microsoft confirmed that Windows 11 25H2 does not bring any new features compared to version 24H2. |
For users currently on Windows 11 24H2, upgrading to 25H2 will be a smooth and quick process, almost a mere version change. However, for those still using Windows 11 23H2 or Windows 10, upgrading to 25H2 will require a complete reinstall of the operating system – a transition worth considering.
Although it does not bring major changes in features, Windows 11 25H2 is considered a step to standardize and stabilize the system before Microsoft moves to Windows 12 - the operating system version is expected to integrate AI more deeply and can be launched in 2026.
If you don't want to wait, you can proactively upgrade to Windows 11 version 25H2 today through three official ways from Microsoft:
- Via Windows Update: Go to Settings > Windows Update , enable the "Get the latest updates as soon as they're available" option, then click "Check for updates".
- Using Installation Assistant: If you don't see the update, go to Microsoft's official website to download the Installation Assistant tool and upgrade manually.
- Using ISO file: For those who want to do a clean install or upgrade themselves, Microsoft has provided the official ISO file of Windows 11 25H2 for download and use.
It's important to note that the Windows 11 25H2 rollout is a phased process. Some factors, such as hardware configuration, driver or application incompatibility, may prevent your device from receiving the update right away. Microsoft will expand the update coverage over the coming weeks or months, once it's stable on more devices.
If you don't see the Windows 11 25H2 update on your device yet, that's perfectly normal in the early stages of the rollout. Be patient, as Microsoft will continue to expand the rollout in waves to ensure everything works smoothly on a variety of configurations.
