This afternoon, September 15th, the National Center for Meteorological and Hydrological Forecasting announced that a low-pressure area is forming over the sea east of the central part of the South China Sea. At 1 PM, the center of the low-pressure area was located at approximately 12.5 - 13.5 degrees North latitude and 118 - 119 degrees East longitude.
Over the next 24 hours, the low-pressure area will move west-northwest at a speed of approximately 15 km/h and has the potential to strengthen into a tropical depression.
Due to the influence of the low-pressure system, the eastern part of the central South China Sea is experiencing heavy rain and thunderstorms, with winds gradually increasing to level 5, sometimes level 6, gusting to level 8. Sea waves are 2-3 meters high, causing rough seas.
The meteorological agency advises that vessels operating in the area should take proactive measures to avoid and ensure safety. The National Center for Meteorological and Hydrological Forecasting is continuing to monitor this low-pressure system.
