On the afternoon of June 22nd, the University of Economics and Law announced the cutoff scores for Method 1b, which prioritizes direct admission of excellent and talented students from high schools nationwide according to the regulations of the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, and Method 2, which prioritizes admission according to the regulations of the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City.

Specifically, the method of prioritizing direct admission for outstanding and talented students from high schools nationwide applies to candidates belonging to the group of 5 top-performing students with the highest average academic scores over 3 years of high school, or talented students who have achieved high results in sports or arts competitions. Each high school is only allowed to nominate one student to a unit of the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City.

In 2023, the University of Economics and Law received applications from 159 high schools nationwide for this admission method. The major with the highest cutoff score under this method was Economic Mathematics with 28.60 points (on a 30-point scale).

According to the regulations of the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, the priority admission method received 4,242 applications with 13,493 preferences. These are candidates who achieved excellent academic performance for all three years of high school or were members of the national team participating in the national excellent student competition, studying at 149 high schools as stipulated.

The five high schools with the highest number of students admitted through this method are: Gia Dinh High School (Ho Chi Minh City), Luong Van Chanh Specialized High School (Phu Yen province), Nguyen Quang Dieu Specialized High School ( Dong Thap province), Tien Giang Specialized High School (Tien Giang province), and Nguyen Binh Khiem Specialized High School (Quang Nam province). The cutoff score for this method is the sum of the average scores of the three subjects in the chosen subject combination from grades 10, 11, and 12. Students from 83 specialized and gifted high schools have their total score of the three subjects multiplied by a factor of 1.05.

According to Master Cù Xuân Tiến, Head of Admissions and Student Affairs at the University of Economics and Law, the cut-off scores for this priority admission method increased significantly in 2023 compared to last year. All majors have cut-off scores of 80 points or higher (on a 90-point scale). To be admitted, candidates must have an average score of 8.9 or higher in each subject of the chosen admission combination. The majors with the most applicants and the highest cut-off scores are: International Business, International Economics, and E-commerce.

Master Tiến noted that candidates are officially admitted when they are recognized as having graduated from high school in 2023. Specifically, candidates admitted through Method 2 are only eligible for admission if their high school graduation exam scores in the subjects included in the subject combination they registered for meet the minimum quality assurance threshold (using the 2023 high school exam scores for the subjects in the subject combination).

The list of eligible candidates will be updated by the school on the Ministry of Education and Training's portal. Candidates need to follow the school's instructions to register and arrange their preferences correctly according to the admission regulations in order to be officially recognized as admitted.

Previously, the University of Economics and Law announced the admission cutoff scores for the 2023 National University of Ho Chi Minh City's aptitude test and the admission method based on international certificates (IELTS, TOEFT, etc.) combined with high school academic results or SAT, ACT/International Baccalaureate (IB)/A-level certificates.
