Going back in history, the relationship between Vietnam and Central and Eastern European countries was founded during the most difficult period of the Vietnamese people's just resistance war for independence. Central and Eastern European countries such as Poland , Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania and Czechoslovakia (now the Czech Republic and Slovakia) were among the first countries to recognize and establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam in 1950. At that time, Vietnam received valuable support, sincere and effective solidarity from Central and Eastern European countries. It was not only material support but also a deep sharing of solidarity, the ideals of independence, peace and development.
Many hospitals and schools built with aid have become symbols of friendly cooperation between Vietnam and Poland, Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania and Czechoslovakia. It is also the Central and Eastern European countries that have trained and nurtured many generations of Party and State leaders and leading experts of Vietnam in many fields, making great contributions to the development of Vietnam and serving as the foundation for the Vietnam-Central and Eastern European relationship.
“On behalf of the Government and people of Vietnam, I would like to express my deep gratitude to the governments and people of Central and Eastern European countries for their valuable cooperation with Vietnam in the cause of national liberation and national construction... With a solid historical foundation and open potential for cooperation, the relationship between Vietnam and Central and Eastern European countries is an important pillar in Vietnam's foreign policy,” Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha affirmed.

At the workshop, opinions assessed that the past 75 years are a meaningful historical milestone, marking the journey of close and profound cooperation between Vietnam and Central and Eastern European countries - traditional friends and potential strategic partners in the region. "Despite the storms of the international situation and in each country, we still maintain and develop a friendly, trustworthy and sustainable relationship. It can be said that throughout the length of three-quarters of a century, we have together built and preserved a "friendship bridge" based on the pillars of common values, trust and understanding, support and willingness to help each other", Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang emphasized.
Looking back over the past 75 years, Vietnam and Central and Eastern European countries are proud of the achievements in cooperation in all fields. Vietnam and Central and Eastern European countries have built and consolidated strategic trust based on close and substantive political cooperation, state diplomacy, and people-to-people diplomacy. In terms of economics, trade, and investment, Vietnam-Central and Eastern European cooperation plays an important role in the cooperation between Vietnam and the European Union (EU) and is being promoted on the basis of the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA). Central and Eastern European countries are a strategic bridge for Vietnam to access the EU market, while Vietnam is a bridge for countries to access the ASEAN market. In addition, more than 12,000 Vietnamese students have been trained in Central and Eastern European countries, many of whom have become leaders and leading experts in key fields.
The Vietnamese community in Central and Eastern European countries is growing, has a voice, and makes great contributions to the socio-economic development of the host country. “The friendly and cooperative relationship between Central and Eastern European countries and Vietnam has proven to be sustainable over the past 75 years despite the ups and downs of history. We are a big family, in which the Vietnamese community in the host country is a great source of pride, a living testament to the good relationship built on that foundation of trust. I would like to thank the Vietnamese people for their cooperation yesterday, today and tomorrow,” said Czech Ambassador to Vietnam Hynek Kmonicek on behalf of the embassies of the 6 Central and Eastern European countries in Vietnam.
In the context of the world facing profound changes, the relationship between Vietnam and Central and Eastern European countries has become more meaningful than ever. Strengthening and enhancing the relationship has become an objective need. With a geostrategic position, a dynamic economy and an increasingly prominent role in multilateral mechanisms, Vietnam and Central and Eastern European countries are potential partners for cooperation and development, not only on a bilateral level but also at the regional and international level. “With a solid 75-year historical foundation and common values of peace, cooperation and development, we have a solid basis to believe that the relationship between Vietnam and Central and Eastern European countries will continue to develop strongly, bringing practical benefits to the people of both sides, while actively contributing to peace, stability and prosperity in the region and the world,” Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha expressed.
On the sidelines of the workshop "75 years of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Central and Eastern European countries: Strengthening friendship - Strengthening cooperation - Towards the future", about 20 Vietnamese and Central and Eastern European enterprises participated in organizing booths to display, introduce and promote agricultural and medical products to exchange and seek cooperation opportunities. |
