As the first year the exam was held under the 2018 General Education Program, this year's Math exam featured fundamental changes, consisting of 22 multiple-choice questions in three formats: multiple choice (A, B, C, D); true/false; and short answer. In previous years, the exam only had one multiple-choice format.
Notably, this year the scoring method for true/false questions has changed significantly: Each question consists of four sub-questions. If a candidate chooses one correct answer, they receive 0.1 point; two correct answers earn 0.25 points; three correct answers earn 0.5 points; and only by answering all four correctly do they receive the full 1 point.
After the exam, most candidates, when asked, said that the Math exam questions were entirely within the scope of the knowledge they had learned and reviewed, and followed the structure of the sample exam provided by the Ministry of Education and Training, which they were already familiar with.
The exam also ensures differentiation so that students who only need a passing grade can achieve the required score; students with good academic performance and who choose Mathematics as a subject in their university or college entrance exam combination will achieve higher results.
As for independent candidates taking the exam under the 2006 General Education Program, the exam still follows the old structure with 50 multiple-choice questions. According to candidates, there will still be about 30 to 40 questions at the knowledge, comprehension, and application levels; and 10 questions at a higher application level for candidates aiming for university or college admission scores.
According to a preliminary report from the Quang Ninh Department of Education and Training's Examination Council, the Mathematics exam on the afternoon of June 26th had 19,773 candidates participating out of a total of 19,930 registered candidates, a participation rate of 99.21%. 157 candidates were absent, including 59 who were exempted from the exam, 57 who were ill and did not take the exam, and 41 who dropped out. There were no violations of the examination regulations by candidates or individuals involved in organizing the exam. The examination supervision by the Examination Council was conducted seriously, safely, and in accordance with regulations. The exam proceeded safely without any unusual incidents.
Thus, after the first day of exams, candidates have completed the two compulsory subjects: Literature and Mathematics. Tomorrow, June 27th, candidates taking the exam under the 2018 General Education Program will take the two elective subjects, concluding the exam period. Independent candidates taking the exam under the 2006 General Education Program will take one of the two combined Natural Sciences or Social Sciences exams in the morning and a Foreign Language exam in the afternoon.
