More than 2 years after joining MU from Chelsea for a fee of 60 million pounds, Mount finally showed strong signs of revival. In the victory over Sunderland in round 7 of the Premier League on October 4, the English midfielder scored the opening goal, then was voted the best player of the match and received applause from the stands when leaving the field in the second half.
The goal against Sunderland not only had personal significance for Mount but also marked a positive change under coach Ruben Amorim. Both Mount and Casemiro - names once considered no longer suitable for MU - were arranged to start in the 3-4-2-1 system of the Portuguese strategist. This is considered a more suitable formation for Mount than the previous 4-2-3-1 system of Erik ten Hag.
Mount said after the win over Sunderland: “I always try to create energy, close down and motivate the team. It was very important to score the first goal at home in the Premier League this season. I enjoyed that moment.”
Coach Amorim has repeatedly admitted that Mount is his favorite midfielder, even giving the former Chelsea star a starting spot in the 2024/25 Europa League final instead of some other stars. The relationship between the two teachers and students is considered positive, helping Mount gain more confidence after a period of injury and inconsistent performance.

The 26-year-old midfielder said that having played in a similar formation at Chelsea, he easily grasped Amorim's tactical requirements: "I am familiar with this system so I understand the positions and roles. That helps a lot, especially in the early stages when the new coach arrives."
However, Mount has also had his fair share of challenges. This season, he has been deployed on the left in two games, including against Brentford – something Gary Neville said was “unreasonable”.
But when returning to his familiar "number 10" role against Sunderland, Mount immediately made his mark with a goal in the 8th minute, helping to stop a team in high form.
Mount has now won Amorim's trust even more thanks to his convincing performance. He did not have to play in the FIFA Days series with England and is almost certain to be a starter at MU if he does not have injury problems.
With his form gradually improving, Mount is considered one of the factors that can help Amorim keep his seat at MU if he maintains his recent performance.
