According to The Guardian , Carrick is close to signing a long-term contract with Manchester United after nearly six months in charge at Old Trafford. Previously, MU's Director of Football Jason Wilcox and CEO Omar Berrada planned to wait until the Champions League qualification race was over before starting negotiations.
Since replacing Ruben Amorim in January, Carrick has brought about a noticeable change in both playing style and fighting spirit. More importantly, the former midfielder has received strong support from the dressing room.
Striker Matheus Cunha expressed his excitement and praised Carrick after the 3-2 victory over Liverpool on the morning of May 4th: “He brings confidence to the whole team. The way Carrick guides and communicates is fantastic. I think he has something in common with Sir Alex. Carrick deserves this opportunity.”
Not only Cunha, but two other key players, captain Bruno Fernandes and center-back Harry Maguire, are also said to support Carrick continuing to lead the team long-term.
For his part, Carrick remained calm when speaking about the future: “I love my current job. It’s a great position and I feel very comfortable in this role. Although it’s a challenging job, I understand what it entails.”
With the backing of both the club's management and the players, Carrick is getting very close to officially becoming Manchester United's long-term manager.
