Manchester United are planning a major squad overhaul in the summer of 2026, aiming to raise around £100 million from player sales to rebuild the team and get back into the title race.

According to British media, at least five players must leave Old Trafford: Marcus Rashford, Andre Onana, Rasmus Hojlund, Manuel Ugarte, and Joshua Zirkzee. Many of these players could be sold for significantly less than their original transfer fees, possibly even around 50% of their value.

Conversely, Manchester United have listed two prominent midfield targets: Elliot Anderson (Nottingham Forest) and Aurelien Tchouameni (Real Madrid). However, the likelihood of signing both Anderson and Tchouameni largely depends on how successfully the club can offload players from its squad.

Following their victory against Chelsea, Manchester United's chances of securing a Champions League spot are almost guaranteed. This not only makes it easier for the team to attract players in the transfer market, but also generates an additional £50-60 million in revenue.

Nevertheless, selling players remains a major challenge. Over the past 10 years, MU has only ranked 9th in England in terms of net transfer revenue. The sale of Alejandro Garnacho for £40 million is considered a rare bright spot.

Rashford's situation also carries risks as Barcelona may not activate his £26 million buyout clause. Meanwhile, signings of Hojlund, Onana, and Ugarte would all result in significant losses for the club.

Under the leadership of Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS, MU is striving to rectify past mistakes. However, to truly return to competing for the Premier League title, the Old Trafford club must make wiser transfer decisions in the coming period.
