According to Chosun , the first two South Korean films made entirely with AI officially premiered on May 21st. These are I Am Popo , a film about a robot attempting to eliminate future criminals, and The Man in Hanbok, a fantasy film about the meeting of Joseon inventor Jang Yeong Sil with Leonardo da Vinci. After nearly a week of release, both have sold less than 1,000 tickets – a number considered too small to have a significant impact on the market.
According to sources, currently, most AI video creation models can only generate a maximum of about 15 seconds per prompt input. Each prompt only produces a few seconds of footage. A full-length film would require hundreds of thousands of prompts.

AI cinema also became a hot topic at this year's Cannes Film Festival. At the Marché du Film – Cannes' film market – the 95-minute film Hell Grind was presented. This film, created entirely using Google's Veo 3 AI, tells the story of a thief wandering through a dystopian wasteland to rescue his lover.
According to the Wall Street Journal , the first 25 minutes of the film alone required 16,181 prompts. Each prompt averaged about 3,000 words – equivalent to 60 pages of handwritten script. The instructions had to be extremely detailed: backlighting or natural light, camera placement, type of camera used… all had to be described so that the AI could create the most realistic images possible.
Director Steven Soderbergh – who became the youngest filmmaker to win the Palme d'Or at just 26 years old – incorporated approximately 10% AI-generated surreal imagery into his documentary , *John Lennon: The Last Interview*. Given his standing at Cannes, this was considered an extremely bold move.

In an interview with AP , Soderbergh said: "We won't know where the limits are until someone crosses them. I think we need credible creators making AI films to test audience reactions."
Currently, the use of AI in film and creative industries in general remains a highly controversial topic, facing strong opposition from many people.
