(NADS) - The tea islands of Thanh Chuong, located about 50 km southwest of Vinh city in Thanh An commune, Thanh Chuong district, Nghe An province, cover a total area of over 420 hectares. These islands are also likened to "Ha Long Bay on land" due to their unique and unparalleled beauty.
The tea island was formed by the rising water level of Cau Cau Lake (Thanh An commune - Thanh Chuong district, Nghe An province). The lake was built in 1963, and at that time, due to its small capacity, the hills covered with tea plants remained dormant on the eastern slopes of the Truong Son mountain range.
Due to economic development requirements and the exploitation of the potential and strengths of the right bank of Thanh Chuong district, in 2000, Cau Cau Lake, along with seven other irrigation lakes in Thanh Chuong, was renovated and upgraded as part of the "Project to renovate and upgrade the irrigation lake system on the right bank of Thanh Chuong district," managed by Thanh Chuong Irrigation Company Limited. Cau Cau Lake provides irrigation water for agricultural production in Thanh An, Thanh Thinh, and a part of Thanh Chi communes. After the renovation and upgrade, the lake's area expanded to a capacity of nearly 3 million cubic meters of water. As a result, the upstream hills were partially submerged, creating islands. Local people have cleared these hills and forests to plant industrial tea, supplying raw materials to the Ngoc Lam tea factory.
Currently, the total tea plantation area covers over 450 hectares, of which approximately 83 hectares are surrounded by lake water, creating tea islands with breathtaking scenery. After the Ho Chi Minh Highway section through Thanh Chuong district was completed (in 2003), the Cau Cau Lake area, located close to the highway, became known to many tourists from within and outside the province. Since then, the lake area has been designated by the Thanh Chuong district leadership and local people as a tourist destination.
Thanh An Tea Island (Thanh Chuong) offers a unique and unmistakable beauty; viewed from above, the tea hills resemble a distinctive fingerprint. With its natural, pristine, and romantic beauty, and situated alongside the Ho Chi Minh Highway, it's perhaps one of a kind in Vietnam where visitors must travel by boat to explore, just like at Thanh An Tea Island (Thanh Chuong). The most impressive aspect is the magnificent beauty of the tea islands, which are adorned with a stunning green hue throughout all four seasons.
With dozens of different tea islands, each with its own unique shape and size, the smallest being at least over 1 hectare, Thanh An tea island offers a unique experience. Traveling on small boats, weaving through the lush green islands, you can appreciate the beauty of "Ha Long Bay on land," enjoy the incredibly fresh and pleasant atmosphere, and immerse yourself in a truly romantic setting. Especially in the early morning, the gentle aroma of tea fills the air, creating a feeling of tranquility. Some islands feature simple thatched huts, perfect for resting, refreshments, and admiring the picturesque scenery. After exploring the tea islands, visitors can order local Thanh Chuong cuisine at the floating restaurants, such as Thanh Chuong fermented bamboo shoots, chicken soup, stream fish, and green tea served in a bowl – all served in a rustic, down-to-earth style.
