A leisurely summer in Munich

Người Lao ĐộngNgười Lao Động08/08/2024

Summer in Munich, Germany, lasts from early morning until 9 PM, when the sunlight finally begins to soften.

I could sit for hours on a bench by the street next to Marienplatz Square (Munich, Germany) just to watch the streets and crowds at 9 PM without needing streetlights.

From ancient to modern

Munich is the third largest city in Germany, after Berlin and Hamburg – one of the world's leading economies . While Berlin is famous for its rich cultural heritage and historical monuments, Munich captivates with its blend of ancient and modern beauty. Considered the most livable city in Germany, it is renowned for its famous Oktoberfest beer festival.

One day at the end of July, the summer sun shone brightly from 5 am until 9 pm. The streets were brightly lit and bustling with people. Sitting for the first time in a lakeside restaurant in Munich as the sun shone down on the calm water at 9 pm, I felt both a sense of wonder and delight.

When visiting Munich, don't forget to include a trip to Nymphenburg Palace in your itinerary – one of Germany's most impressive architectural masterpieces. It's also considered one of the most beautiful palaces in Europe, thanks to its blend of royal architecture and castle park design.

Nymphenburg Castle, built in 1664, was once the summer residence of the German royal family. The magnificent structure features elaborate Rococo-style interiors and intricate carvings in its smaller pavilions. Many visitors linger in the room containing portraits of 36 of the most beautiful women from all social classes of the time.

I also wandered around Marienplatz Square for hours. Built in the 12th century, Marienplatz was once the venue for medieval markets, celebrations, and tournaments. Today, the square has become a popular tourist attraction, including many Vietnamese visitors. Tourists can stroll around the old town hall and the church, then shop at famous brands or enjoy drinks and food all day long without getting bored.

Why go to Munich?

Among the Vietnamese tourists visiting Munich, some had traveled to Europe before. However, for them, Munich held an irresistible charm and was considered "the most livable city in the land of beer."

Minh, a tourist from Hanoi, confidently stated that after this trip, he will definitely return to Munich again next October with his family to participate in the Oktoberfest beer festival. "Munich has its own unique charm that you have to discover and experience for yourself to fully appreciate the ancient beauty of its castles or the modernity of Germany's leading economic center," he enthusiastically said.

On the way from the hotel to the BMW Motor Museum, we saw a continuous stream of cars, including BMWs, passing by. According to Benedikt Brandmeier, Director of the Munich Tourism Office, this is one of the two cities with the most vibrant nightlife in Germany.

Munich boasts a diverse cultural history, numerous ancient castles, and convenient access to many other tourist destinations in the region. As an economic and industrial hub, Munich is renowned for its BMW brand. BMW is not only a global luxury car brand and a symbol of the German automotive industry, but the BMW complex in this area has also become a major tourist attraction. The BMW Welt showroom alone welcomes over 2 million visitors annually.

Upon arriving in this city, visitors are not only impressed by the warmth and hospitality of the locals but also surprised by how the area has developed tourism. While we were riding electric bicycles around Munich, the driver unexpectedly turned on the music. Familiar Vietnamese songs playing on the German streets made us feel warm and comforted.

Knowing he would be serving a group of Vietnamese tourists, the driver thoughtfully searched for some songs beforehand to help them relax. Throughout the long journey, the driver also happily chatted, readily took photos and videos for the passengers, and rarely stopped smiling.

Just a few days in Munich gave me an indescribable feeling of tranquility – not only because of the mild summer with temperatures ranging from 15 to 25 degrees Celsius, but also because of the scenery, the people, and their warmth and hospitality.
