On the evening of May 24th, West Ham won 2-0 against Leeds United in the 38th round of the Premier League, but were still relegated because in the other match played at the same time, Tottenham beat Everton 1-0.
Playing in the Championship next season will significantly reduce West Ham's revenue. This will force the club to offload players to reduce their wage bill, including midfielder Mateus Fernandes.
According to the Telegraph , West Ham had previously valued Fernandes at £80 million. However, after "The Hammers" were relegated, this figure could drop sharply to around £50 million. This is considered a reasonable price for clubs pursuing Fernandes such as Manchester United or Arsenal.
Meanwhile, The Athletic revealed that West Ham have prepared for the possibility of parting ways with Fernandes this summer. The club's management is reportedly accepting the reality that the young midfielder will leave regardless of whether the club avoids relegation or not.
With a budget of around £150 million for a midfield overhaul, MU are reportedly looking to bring in at least three quality new signings. With his powerful playing style and proven experience in the Premier League, Fernandes is seen as an ideal replacement for Casemiro.
Besides Fernandes, MU are also interested in Ederson (Atalanta) and Elliot Anderson of Nottingham Forest.
