The 10th day of the lunar month – is it still considered Tet (Vietnamese New Year) if it's still the "first day"

The Lunar New Year holiday is over, and life has returned to normal. Many workers have returned to factories, and many businesses have resumed operations, but the mentality of "as long as the holiday lasts" still lingers. Is this advisable?

The mindset of resting after a year of hard work, the idea that Tet (Lunar New Year) only comes around a few days a year, and the need to take a little extra time off and make up for it later, is actually not entirely new. While this way of thinking has changed considerably recently, it's true that inertia still persists.

It must be acknowledged that a week-long holiday, or in many places nearly ten days, is sufficient for leisure, meeting friends, and resting with family to recharge. Therefore, returning to normal life as soon as possible for studying and working is not only natural but should be considered a mandatory requirement and a necessary discipline for each individual.

It is no coincidence that General Secretary To Lam, right in the first meeting of the new year after returning to work following the Tet holiday, which included a summary of the organization of the 2025 Tet holiday, requested that "agencies, units, and localities immediately get back to work after the Tet holiday, and not allow the situation of prolonged Tet celebrations and neglect of work to occur."

Post-Tet inertia is present. It acts as a significant barrier for many people. The mindset of working slowly and leisurely to get through "January, the month for leisure" is frankly not something that can be easily eradicated. This may seem like a minor issue, but ultimately it has a significant impact, acting as a considerable erodermic force on work efficiency and the labor force of society as a whole.

And it needs to be limited so that it gradually becomes a habit, eventually eliminating it from our thinking. We have already enjoyed the fruits of our labor; now it's time to focus on the work of the new year if we still hope to receive better and more promising results in life ahead.

Returning to daily life involves specific tasks for each day and week, and further planning for each month and quarter. Similarly, it remains essential for each individual to set personal goals. Short-term goals could be six months or a year, while longer-term goals might be three or five years, serving as milestones to strive towards.

You could also start the new year by choosing to take up a new skill. A short skills course focusing on something you're lacking, or a short-term training program on a new area you're interested in, for example. Or, if you have the time and money, you could explore and learn about a different field than your current expertise. Why not?

Actively manage your 24 hours each day to be efficient and reasonable. Proactively set milestones in your work and life to strive for. Proactively build and select quality relationships. In doing so, each of us is choosing to live proactively in our own way, harmoniously and with full energy for the new year.
