More than 10,000 US troops are currently stationed in Poland, a country that has become a major transit point for aid and equipment to neighboring Ukraine.
The permanent US garrison is based in the city of Poznan, western Poland. This is the eighth permanent US garrison in Europe.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, US Ambassador to Poland Mark Brzezinski said: "This is a historic event, a signal that we are here for the long term… It is also a signal to the world that the United States remains committed to Poland and NATO. We are united in the face of Russia's campaign."
Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak appreciated the long-term presence of the US in this European country, especially when Russia launched a military campaign in Ukraine.
According to Mr. Balszczak, the US garrison plays an "important role for Poland's security as well as NATO's security".
