Nam Dinh is ready for the Pho Festival 2024.

The Pho Festival 2024 brings together many pho artisans with 50 typical pho stalls from all over the country, as well as stalls promoting tourism and OCOP products.

The series of activities in the Pho Festival 2024 program is very diverse and attractive.

Ahead of the 2024 Pho Festival, which will take place over three days (March 15-17) in Nam Dinh province, relevant provincial agencies have coordinated to meticulously plan and prepare for this nationwide event promoting pho culinary culture.

According to Nguyen Tien Dung, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Nam Dinh province, this is the first time in the country that the Pho Festival has been held in a single locality. This year's event brings together many artisans of the pho craft, with 50 booths (including 30 booths featuring typical and characteristic pho from all regions and 20 booths for trade, tourism promotion and OCOP products).

The event will take place in an area of approximately 4,600m² at the Nam Cuong Hotel square (Nam Dinh city) and Van Cu village, Dong Son commune (Nam Truc district). Not only is it a major event attracting the attention of people inside and outside the province, the Pho Festival 2024 is expected to welcome many delegates from central government ministries and agencies; representatives from embassies and international organizations.

Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Nam Dinh province, chaired a meeting on the organization of the Pho Festival 2024.

“The 2024 Pho Festival is an important event – an opportunity for Nam Dinh province to promote its image and traditional cultural beauty to friends and tourists both domestically and internationally,” emphasized the Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Nam Dinh province.

The 2024 Pho Festival program features a rich array of activities, including the "Vietnamese Pho Road" program; cooking a giant pot of pho (containing 1,500-2,000 bowls); a panel discussion on "The Vietnamese Pho Road and Pho Noodles"; a performance of "The Flavor of Vietnamese Pho"; a youth music night titled "Pho in My Heart"; and various side activities, entertainment, and performances showcasing pho culture…

Besides celebrating the traditional pho making craft, the Pho Festival is also an opportunity to connect, exchange ideas, and promote trade between craft villages and businesses in the culinary field. At the same time, it's a chance for tourists to visit, learn about, and enjoy the flavor of pho, deeply rooted in regional cultures across the country.

At the Pho Festival 2024, approximately 25,000 bowls of pho will be served via coupons (tickets), priced at only 15,000 VND per ticket, half the price of the cheapest bowl of pho. 50% of the revenue from coupon sales will be donated to charity, supporting children with disabilities.

The Pho Festival 2024 will feature 65 artisan chefs and culinary experts from across the country.

To prepare for the 2024 Pho Festival, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Nam Dinh province has closely coordinated with relevant units to develop plans for welcoming and ensuring security and safety for delegates, guests, and tourists attending the event; paying attention to food safety and hygiene, traffic safety, and electrical safety.

Comrade Nguyen Tien Dung, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Nam Dinh province, added that the Pho Festival is an event that the leaders of Nam Dinh province pay great attention to and direct the implementation of. The successful organization of the event will make an important contribution to the proposal to recognize "pho making" as a national intangible cultural heritage; and from there, to submit it to UNESCO for inclusion in the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The main activities during the 3 days of the Pho Festival 2024:

Day 1 (March 15th): Morning: Delegates and invited guests from the Embassy experience pho at Van Cu village. Afternoon: Opening ceremony of the "Vietnamese Pho Road" program.

Day 2 (March 16th): Morning: Seminar “The Vietnamese Pho Journey and Pho Noodles”; Performance “The Flavor of Vietnamese Pho”. Evening: Youth Music Night “Pho in My Heart”.

Day 3 (March 17): Performance “Vietnamese Pho Noodles”: recreating the process of making pho noodles and the pho culture of Vietnam according to different regions.

Side activities include: a writing contest titled "Nostalgia for Pho"; a photo contest titled "Celebrating Vietnamese Pho"; a roadshow to promote the event in the city; a coupon campaign to promote pho culture for the community; entertainment performances showcasing pho culture; and tourism promotion in Nam Dinh.
