Deeply attached to Karate-do

For Mr. Tran Quang Vinh (born in 1992) in Vinh Thuy commune, Karate-Do has been an integral part of his life for the past 24 years. Driven by his passion and dedication, he established and developed the Cua Tung Karate-Do Club – a reputable institution that not only teaches martial arts but also cultivates character in generations of students. This summer, Mr. Vinh opened a charity class, teaching martial arts to underprivileged children, contributing to the spread of positive actions and the spirit of Karate-Do.

" Karate-Do has truly helped me grow."

Now, as a Karate-Do coach with a national third-degree black belt, Vinh still feels nostalgic and emotional whenever he recalls his early days learning martial arts. Vinh lost his father at a young age and, being frail and weak, was often bullied.

Therefore, the desire for better health and a stronger spirit was always present in him. "When I was little, every time I went to Dong Ha to play and saw my friends practicing in their beautiful martial arts uniforms, I wished I could wear one of those uniforms myself."

"At the age of 9, my aunt took me to Dong Ha to study Karate for three months during the summer, then I returned to Vinh Linh to continue my education. Feeling a passion for the sport, in 2002, I asked my mother to let me travel from Vinh Linh to Dong Ha by train on weekends to study Karate. However, due to extremely difficult family circumstances, my path to pursuing Karate-Do has been fraught with ups and downs…," Vinh recounted.

In 2004, Vinh transferred schools to the mountainous region to live with his aunt and study at Ba Long Secondary School. Every weekend, whenever his aunt's husband, Karate coach Nguyen Van Bang, came from Dong Ha to visit his wife and children, young Vinh would ask for extra lessons to fulfill his passion for martial arts.

Under the guidance of his first teacher, Coach Nguyen Van Bang, Quang Vinh made remarkable progress, demonstrating confidence, resilience, and quick thinking in grasping lessons. In 2007, Quang Vinh went to Cua Tung to work as an assistant to Coach Nguyen Van Bang at a Karate-Do class. This was also the period when Vinh trained diligently, absorbing all the essence of the martial art and gradually maturing by learning his teacher's teaching and training methods.

Vinh said that thanks to Karate-Do, he has truly matured. Pursuing this martial art has also helped him improve his character and ethics, become more confident and assertive. From there, he began to have his first students and harbors the intention of continuing to "nurture" karate talents for his hometown.

Although Vinh graduated from the Nam Viet International Vocational College with a degree in hydropower plant operation, he believes that martial arts seemed to have chosen him. After graduation, despite having a fairly stable job, he decided to quit and return to his hometown to focus on... teaching martial arts.

He shared: “In 2013, I returned to my hometown with the desire to build a Karate-Do movement in Cua Tung. Initially, the newly opened club only had 11 students, but I felt deeply attached to my students and wanted to contribute to the development of the Karate-Do movement in the province. Seemingly understanding my aspirations, all the students were very diligent and enthusiastic in their training.”

To date, after 12 years of maintenance and development, the Cua Tung Karate-Do Club has become one of the clubs with a regular and high-quality training program, with approximately 80 students attending regularly. Among them, 33 students have achieved the first-degree black belt, and 3 students have achieved the second-degree black belt.

Connecting martial arts with morality and compassion.

Twice a week, at the courtyard of Lap Thach Pagoda in Nam Dong Ha ward, 60 underprivileged children attend a free martial arts class taught by Coach Quang Vinh to improve their physical fitness, learn about martial arts, and cultivate moral values. Not only do they learn self-defense skills, develop willpower, perseverance, and discipline, but at this class, the children also feel the love, sharing, and kindness of Coach Quang Vinh, who is always dedicated to helping and readily providing gifts, snacks, food, and drinks for his students.

Mr. Vinh said: "I myself faced many difficulties in accessing martial arts from a young age, so I want to compensate for some of the disadvantages faced by poor children, giving them the opportunity to learn martial arts. With the support and encouragement of the abbot, the children here are now in a good environment to improve their health, self-defense skills, and develop a spirit of mutual support and assistance in life, as well as the ability to protect the vulnerable."

At the Cua Tung Karate-Do Club, in addition to focusing on effectively implementing training, coaching, and competition according to the national program; and prioritizing investment in facilities and equipment that meet the required standards, Coach Quang Vinh also regularly motivates and encourages the martial arts students.

In particular, in addition to martial arts training, the Cua Tung Karate-Do Club holds a monthly ethics and culture lesson. As a result, the students are all very well-behaved and strive to become well-rounded individuals in terms of culture, ethics, and physical fitness.

In the shared home of the Cua Tung Karate-Do Club, the students always live in love and unity, being trained to become individuals who possess both the courage of martial artists and a deep sense of loyalty to their master and fellow students.

Drawing on years of practical experience gained from overcoming difficulties to pursue his passion for Karate-Do, and with his dedication, Mr. Vinh has trained generations of outstanding students. Over the years, the Cua Tung Karate-Do Club has built a reputation in training, coaching, and competition with many impressive achievements.

Since 2015, he has been taking his students to compete in Karate tournaments both within and outside the province, giving them opportunities to interact and gain experience. To date, the club consistently ranks among the top Karate-Do clubs in the province.

Among them are many outstanding athletes, such as: Tran Thi Dieu Huong, who won a Bronze Medal at the Nghia Dung Karate-Do International Tournament in 2022 and a Gold Medal at the Nghia Dung Karate-Do Da Nang Tournament in 2025; athlete Hoang Thi My Duyen, who won a Bronze Medal at the Phu Dong National Sports Festival in 2024 and a Gold Medal at the Nghia Dung Karate-Do Da Nang Tournament in 2025...

“Through persistent training in Karate-Do, many of my students have gradually matured, become more confident in public speaking, and stayed away from social vices. In addition, they have shown a strong will to excel in their studies, achieving many accomplishments and high awards in provincial and national student competitions; passing university entrance exams and finding stable jobs after graduation. Wherever they are, whatever they do, they uphold the spirit of chivalry, maintain good conduct and ethics, and are ready to help those in need. For me, that is a happiness that not everyone can have,” Mr. Vinh proudly said.
