Specifically, at around 8:00 AM on May 25th, Nguyen Thi Ngan (born in 2009), after returning from collecting rubber sap, went to Hanh Phuc bakery in Nam Dong village, Con Tien commune, to buy 5 boxes of mixed sticky rice at 10,000 VND per box, sold directly by Ms. Tran Thi Thanh Huyen (born in 1982).

Afterward, Ngan took the sticky rice home to Nam Tan village to eat with four family members. She kept one box for her older brother, Nguyen Cuong (born in 2006).

About 15 minutes later, Mr. Nguyen Cuong took out the box of sticky rice to eat and discovered many maggots inside. Because he had only eaten one piece of sausage when he noticed the problem, Mr. Cuong spat it out and did not continue eating the food.

Shortly afterwards, Nguyen Thi Ngan brought the box of sticky rice to Hanh Phuc bakery to complain, and then Ms. Tran Thi Thanh Huyen accepted the box of sticky rice and returned the money.

A video showing maggots found in sticky rice has gone viral on social media.

After questioning, Ms. Tran Thi Thanh Huyen admitted that due to negligence in food processing and storage, and a failure to thoroughly inspect the food before selling it to customers, maggots appeared in the food. According to authorities, no cases of food poisoning or serious health effects have been recorded so far.

Initial inspection revealed that the Hanh Phuc bakery had two women directly selling goods and one man processing food. Regarding legal documents, Ms. Huyen presented a business registration license and personal health examination records. However, she could not produce a certificate of food safety compliance, only providing a commitment letter guaranteeing food safety.

Currently, the Con Tien commune police are coordinating with relevant agencies to consolidate the case file and advise on handling the matter according to regulations.
