Neymar alludes to Mbappe as the 'villain'.

VnExpressVnExpress17/04/2024

Neymar reacted to a social media account that defended Kylian Mbappe after the French striker helped PSG eliminate Barca in the Champions League quarter-finals yesterday.

Neymar left PSG for Al Hilal in the summer of 2023 for a transfer fee of $95 million. At the time, Brazilian media claimed that Mbappe had driven South American and Latin American players out of PSG, including Lionel Messi, Neymar, Mauro Icardi, Leandro Paredes, and Juan Bernat. They implied Mbappe was the "villain," by eliminating the friendly image of the Latin American group.

A Brazilian Instagram account posted a defense of Mbappe after he scored a brace to help PSG eliminate Barca in the Champions League quarter-finals. In response, Neymar retorted: "What a self-deprecating, foreign-obsessed person."

Neymar didn't mention Mbappe in this comment, but he did "like" an article that portrayed the French captain as a villain at PSG. According to SportBible , Neymar is upset at not being considered the team's main star, as Mbappe is increasingly asserting his influence at PSG, both professionally and in terms of salary.

Neymar and Mbappe have both played for PSG since the summer of 2017. While Neymar has only played 173 matches and scored 118 goals for the Parisian club, Mbappe has played 302 matches and scored 253 goals. Even after Messi moved to PSG, Mbappe still earned the highest salary on the team, up to $77 million per year. However, the 26-year-old striker will also leave PSG in the summer of 2024 to join Real Madrid on a free transfer.

In early 2021, Neymar still referred to Mbappe as his "younger brother" in interviews. Before that, Mbappe had also called Neymar his "older brother." The relationship between the two players became more strained after the 2022 World Cup, when Mbappe won the Golden Boot with eight goals, including a hat-trick in the final for runners-up France. The French striker was even rumored to have issued an ultimatum to PSG, stating that he would only stay if Neymar left.
