(Dan Tri Newspaper) - The Kremlin has responded to a proposal for a possible ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine during Christmas.

"First of all, Trump's team is not currently in charge of the White House. That's the first thing. Biden's team is in the White House," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on December 16.
The Kremlin spokesperson made the statement while commenting on the proposed Russia-Ukraine ceasefire for Christmas.
Earlier, Mike Waltz, nominated by US President-elect Donald Trump as national security advisor, said that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban met with him and Trump at the Mar-a-Lago resort on December 9th. This meeting took place two days before the Hungarian Prime Minister spoke by phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Accordingly, Orban proposed a Christmas ceasefire and a large-scale prisoner exchange between Moscow and Kyiv.
Speaking to CBS News on December 15, Waltz declined to say whether Prime Minister Orban had conveyed a message from Trump to Putin. However, Waltz said that a future Trump administration wants Russia and Ukraine to cease fighting, and that a ceasefire as a starting point would be carefully considered by the U.S.
Waltz told CBS : "Orban is in regular contact with Russian officials and he clearly has a good relationship with President-elect Trump, and I hope the whole world wants to see a ceasefire."
However, in a social media post on December 11, Orban said the Ukrainian leader had clearly rejected the ceasefire he had proposed.
On his personal page, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky downplayed Orban's diplomatic efforts, stating that the Hungarian leader was merely trying to enhance his personal image by sacrificing unity within the EU.
Speaking to reporters today, a Kremlin spokesperson said it was still too early to consider the possibility of deploying peacekeeping forces to Ukraine because the Kyiv authorities refused to negotiate with Moscow.
"Ukraine still doesn't want to participate in any form of negotiations. Moreover, Mr. Zelensky has issued a decree prohibiting the holding of talks," Peskov said.
According to the Russian president's spokesperson, negotiations on Ukraine could resume based on the Istanbul agreements.
"In the current circumstances, we will continue our special military operation. There are no plans for negotiations at this time," he noted.
"However, President Putin has repeatedly stated that this is the basis for negotiations to be restarted," Peskov added.
He pointed out that it was Ukraine that withdrew from the negotiations in Istanbul, Türkiye.
President Zelensky has repeatedly asserted that his 10-point "peace formula" is the only viable path to ending the conflict.
Meanwhile, Russia considers Ukraine's plan "illusory" and "out of touch with reality." Moscow has consistently maintained that any solution must begin with Ukraine ceasing military operations and acknowledging "territorial realities," committing to neutrality.
