On June 2, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the conflict in Ukraine could end immediately if the Ukrainian army agreed to withdraw from the territories that Russia has claimed as annexed.

According to Peskov, Russia prioritizes achieving its goals through peace negotiations. However, if Ukraine continues to refuse to negotiate, Russia's special military operation will continue.

Peskov also stated that the fighting "could have ended today," while asserting that systematic attacks are still targeting military infrastructure in Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities.

The statement comes amid a large-scale Russian airstrike using missiles and drones targeting Kyiv and other cities. Ukrainian authorities said the attack killed at least 18 civilians and injured more than 100.
According to Moscow, this airstrike was in retaliation for Ukraine's attack on a dormitory in the city of Starobilsk, Luhansk region, last month, which killed 21 people. The Kremlin condemned it as an "inhuman act of terrorism," while Ukraine insisted it only targeted a military command center, not civilians.
