(To Quoc) - In the early days of May, many streets in Hanoi are dyed purple by the blossoming crape myrtle, creating an incredibly poetic and peaceful scene.

In early May, crape myrtle flowers bloom profusely throughout the streets of Hanoi, signaling the arrival of summer. Rows of crape myrtle trees, their vibrant purple blossoms, seem to lessen the harshness of the intense heat.

The crape myrtle flower originates from India and is now found in many Southeast Asian countries, including Vietnam. Due to its beautiful color, many provinces and cities in Vietnam plant this flower to provide shade and beautify urban landscapes.

The Turtle Tower, surrounded by the purple of crape myrtle and the red of flamboyant flowers, heralds the arrival of summer.

The loyal purple color of the crape myrtle flower is also associated with the childhood memories of countless generations of students.

Lagerstroemia flowers are dark or light purple, blooming in beautiful clusters. Each flower has six petals, which usually spread wide when in bloom; the petals are thin and light like paper.

The crape myrtle flowers bloom quickly but also fade just as fast; after just a few summer rains, the petals lose their color and gradually fall off.

Many streets in Hanoi have this type of tree, notably along the West Lake embankment, Kim Ma Street, Dao Tan Street, Giai Phong Street, Tran Thai Tong Street, etc. Especially around Hoan Kiem Lake, there are many crape myrtle trees that have bloomed beautifully.
