Currently, the Provincial General Hospital is a Grade I hospital, under the Department of Health . The hospital has 4 centers, 9 functional rooms, 20 clinical departments, 8 paraclinical departments, providing health care for people in the province and neighboring areas. The hospital has a scale of 1,500 beds. The hospital is licensed and regularly deploys more than 75% of central-level treatment techniques. Therefore, on March 4, 2025, the Ministry of Health issued a document requesting Khanh Hoa province to build a Provincial General Hospital to assume the function of a regional hospital, ensuring upgrading and development into a specialized or high-tech specialized hospital. On March 19, the Department of Health issued a decision to classify the technical expertise of Khanh Hoa Provincial General Hospital as specialized. Along with that, in the context of the South Central Coast region having strong development in tourism, industry and services, people have increasing demand for high-quality health care, the Provincial General Hospital is oriented to become a South Central Coast Regional Hospital with a full system of specialties, integrating specialized treatment centers is urgent.

This fund will be used for short-term domestic training for staff, doctors, nurses, etc. currently working at the Provincial General Hospital. The goal is to improve professional qualifications, update modern medical techniques, and prepare for the operation phase of the new hospital. The specialties prioritized for training are key areas in treatment at the Provincial General Hospital today, including: Department of Spinal Surgery; Center for Orthopedics and Burns; Center for Sports Medicine; Department of Neurosurgery; Department of Interventional Cardiology; Department of Intensive Care and Anti-Poison; Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology; Department of Pediatrics; Thoracic Surgery, Urology, General Surgery, etc. According to the resolution, officials participating in short-term technical training in the country will be supported with 100% of tuition fees according to the announcement of the training institution; supported with travel, accommodation, and study materials costs at a rate of 10 million VND/person/month; training time according to the training institution's program, etc.
Doctor Phan Huu Chinh - Director of the Provincial General Hospital said that it is expected that in 5 years, the total number of hospital staff and employees sent for short-term training will be about 613 people, of which in the first 2 years (2026 and 2027), more than 330 people will be sent for training, and in the remaining years, from 70 to more than 100 people/year. “In the past, the training and talent attraction regime in the health sector has been implemented according to Resolution No. 11/2022 of the Provincial People's Council stipulating the regime of supporting the training and fostering of civil servants and public employees and attracting talents in the province. However, this resolution does not stipulate the form of short-term training to improve the qualifications of medical human resources for hospitals to achieve specialized or highly specialized hospitals. The newly passed resolution will lay the foundation for building a strong, specialized medical team, contributing to improving the professional quality - the core factor of a regional hospital to serve the people of the whole region for many years to come" - Doctor Chinh affirmed.
