During their leisure time between farming seasons, the villagers here take advantage of the opportunity to make incense to supplement their income and preserve their traditional craft. Currently, the village has about 30 households engaged in this profession, bringing in an income of approximately 40-50 million VND per household per year.
Phja Thap incense is made entirely from natural ingredients using traditional incense-making methods. These incense sticks have a spicy, pungent aroma due to the inclusion of agarwood leaves. The incense sticks are typically made from apricot wood gathered from the forest. Notably, the leaves of the bau hat tree (also known as the dưỡng tree), a type of tree that only grows on natural rocky cliffs in the forest, are used as a binder to hold the incense powder and core together.
