"Child prodigies" in traditional craft villages

On May 30th, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Agriculture and Environment organized a rural occupation experience program for students in the city in 2026 to help them better understand the cultural and economic value of traditional craft villages.

In the first phase, approximately 100 students visited the traditional salt production area of ​​Long Dien and learned about various traditional crafts and villages such as An Ngai rice paper making, An Nhut rice vermicelli making, Dat Do corn sticky rice cake making, and Vung Tau's seashell handicraft making... They also participated in many interactive activities, folk games, and team-building programs related to traditional crafts.

The students learned about the traditional salt production process and directly experienced the salt-making stages in the local area.

Beyond just visiting and experiencing things firsthand, students are encouraged to express their feelings and creative ideas through reports, experience diaries, and articles about preserving and developing rural crafts. In addition, they can participate in photography and painting about traditional crafts. Outstanding works will be selected for publication in a book introducing rural crafts in Ho Chi Minh City.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Agriculture and Environment, the program will be organized in three phases from May to October 2026 at various typical rural craft villages and industrial establishments. Each phase is expected to have approximately 100 students participating.

Students enthusiastically experienced the traditional salt-making profession, discovering the hardships faced by salt farmers.

This is a practical activity aimed at implementing the Government's policies on preserving and developing rural industries in the period 2021-2030, while also linking it with experiential education, rural tourism development, and sustainable new rural construction.

Through field trips, the program aims to educate young people about love for their homeland, raise awareness of the value of traditional crafts, inspire creativity, provide career guidance, and encourage entrepreneurship in the agricultural and rural sectors. At the same time, it contributes to promoting traditional craft products, creating motivation for people to continue preserving and developing their traditional cultural identity in the process of development and integration.
