Currently, artisans in Thanh Ha pottery village, Thanh Ha ward, Hoi An city, Quang Nam province are busy molding and creating snake figurines for the 2025 Lunar New Year.

Accordingly, at pottery workshops, artisans are diligently completing the final stages to produce finished snake figurines, ready for display to serve locals and tourists during the 2025 Lunar New Year.

Mr. Le Van Nhat (36 years old), from Thanh Ha pottery village, said: "At this time, we are temporarily setting aside our daily work such as producing cups, bowls, jars and other utensils to focus on molding the pair of ceramic snake mascots."

According to Mr. Nhat, he received an order to make a pair of snake mascots from the Thanh Ha Ward People's Committee in November 2024. He then developed an idea and sketched the snake design on paper. Next, he prepared the clay and quickly began creating the snake figures. These ceramic snake mascots are 50cm high, 40cm wide, and 60cm long. Currently, Mr. Nhat is completing the final step of scaling the snakes before firing them. The firing process is expected to take about one day.

At the pottery workshop of young craftsman Nguyen Viet Lam (28 years old), he is currently working diligently to complete a pair of mascots for the 2025 Year of the Snake (Tet At Ty) to deliver them to the Thanh Ha Ward People's Committee in time.

Mr. Lam shared that the pair of mascots, which he designed and created himself, are king cobras, one male and one female. He faced considerable difficulties in sculpting the snake mascots due to the unpredictable rainy weather. Heavy rain made the soil muddy, making it difficult to shape the mascots. Furthermore, the process of evenly coating the scales required skillful hands and high concentration. It took Mr. Lam four days to complete the scaling of this pair of ceramic snakes.

Although the pair of ceramic snake mascots are not yet finished, in recent days, many tourists have visited Mr. Lam's workshop to tour, take souvenir photos, and check in. Among them are Western tourists who are very interested, attentively watching and admiring the skillful hands of the artisans.

Mr. Truong Huong, Vice Chairman of the Thanh Ha Ward People's Committee, said: "For the Lunar New Year of the Snake 2025, the local government commissioned pottery artisans to create a total of six ceramic snake figurines. It is expected that all the figurines will be handed over to the ward by mid-December of the lunar calendar to be used for decoration along the road leading to the pottery village. We hope that visitors to Thanh Ha pottery village during Tet will be delighted by these unique figurines."
